GDIT provides Engineering & Technical Services for the FAA Technical Center's Airport Technology Research & Development (ATRD) Branch for all personnel, facilities, material, and other services necessary to accomplish the Branch mission.
The Branch is responsible for conducting research, test, and demonstration efforts related to airport runway safety, airport planning and design, heliport/vertiport facility design, airport pavements, National Airport Pavement Test Facility (NAPTF), National Airport Pavement Materials and Research Center (NAPMRC), airport capacity enhancement, airport capacity/delay computer modeling, airport wildlife hazards, airport/heliport lighting and markings, test and evaluation of National Airspace System (NAS) visual aids, airport rescue and firefighting, and associated demonstration of various airport research products
Airport Safety Technician 3 - Shall possess at least 5 years of expert level electrical/mechanical/fabrication experience maintaining facilities, assets and infrastructure, and constructing project related mockups, equipment, demonstrations or prototype devices as per requested by the FAA, as provided through test plans, standard engineering drawings, or other sources. This airport safety research related experience shall include expert level knowledge of the airport safety research task areas. This candidate shall be self-motivated, and have demonstrated the ability to work without supervision/direction from senior project personnel, and have demonstrated the ability to produce technical written documentation to project manager personnel to support the generation of technical reports or documents. Performs a variety of duties in the electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and/or optical areas. Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, diagnoses, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems. Works from schematics, engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions. Operates related equipment; conducts tests and reports data in prescribed format. Performs calibration and alignment checks; makes adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed; prepares prescribed compounds and solutions. Exclude technicians working in production or quality assurance.
