Job Description

GDIT is seeking a Sr Electrical Power Engineer to join our team in support of the Department of State (DoS) Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS) in the strategic planning, solution development, project management, and solution sustainment of technical security systems (TSS) utilized to protect US embassies, posts, and annexes around the world. 

TSS include power supplies, voltage regulators, battery backup systems, electrical transfer systems (automatic and manual); grounding and lightning protection systems, three-phase/single-phase transformers, diesel and gas generators, power factor correction equipment electrical safety equipment supporting intrusion detection and monitoring systems, perimeter and access control systems, audio systems, and door and barrier controllers.

In this position you will:

  • Perform development, test, and engineering (DT&E) of new and replacement systems to improve security and prevent product obsolescence from impacting security.
  • Perform analysis of building and construction designs.
  • Conduct site electrical surveys.
  • Evaluate manufacturer capabilities, conduct investigations pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials, or processes for possible applications of results, and develop power infrastructure recommendations.
  • Produce engineering documentation to include product evaluations, labor estimates, bill of materials (BOM), deployment documents, product evaluations, new product announcements, service bulletins, guidelines, etc.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of electrical equipment.
  • Develop short circuit, selective overcurrent coordination, arc flash analysis, harmonics analysis and filter design, load calculations, voltage drop, and ground grid / mat engineering studies.
  • Recommend necessary corrections in technical analyses and design to ensure successful project completion.
  • Specify equipment, wiring and protection methods, materials and suppliers required for completion and implementation of projects.

Qualifications

Desired:

  • Hands on experience on schematic, design, and construction documents (drawings, specifications, cost estimate, client meetings, addendums, submittal approvals, RFI’s from contractors and / or project managers, field surveys, and electrical distribution inspection and punch list for project completion
  • Hands on experience with electrical equipment such as voltage, current, and frequency multimeters; earth resistance testers, power monitoring equipment, battery capacity testers, digital load banks, uninterruptible power supplies and voltage regulators
  • Hands on experience testing and troubleshooting of electrical equipment such uninterruptible power supplies, voltage regulators, automatic transfer switches, generators
  • Experience working with building construction management (estimates, project schedules)
  • Hands on experience with AutoCAD Release 2015, SKM Power Tools or ETAP, Fluke Power Quality Analysis
  • Familiarity and use of IEEE, NFPA (70, 70E, and 780), UL, LPI, IBC, IEC, DoS FAM/FAH and OBO standards and codes
  • Subject matter expert on power, grounding, and lightning protection systems
  • Advance level of knowledge and application of the National Electrical Code from power limited circuits up to medium voltage systems

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or Electromechanical Engineering) from an accredited university (required)
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering (plus)
  • 10+ years (15+ preferred) of experience with electrical power design / build projects from programming / pre-design, design, bidding, and construction phases (required)
  • Ability to provide expert-level engineering, design, implementation, technical support, and consulting services on new product developments and technological applications.
  • Minimum Secret level clearance issued by the Defense Security Service (DSS), Department of Defense (DoD) prior to contract performance

  • 25% travel may be required in support of contract
