Electronics Engineer
Protected Distribution System (PDS)/TEMPEST Engineer / Job Title and Overview
The position of PDS/TEMPEST Engineer is responsible for conducting PDS design reviews, PDS inspections of Navy facilities, reviewing Navy TEMPEST Requirements Questionnaires (TRQs), and performing TEMPEST inspections and testing of equipment. The role involves ensuring that Navy communication systems and equipment are protected against electromagnetic emissions and comply with TEMPEST requirements. This role will be performed in coordination with a Govt SME.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
-- Conducting PDS Design Reviews
The PDS/TEMPEST Engineer is responsible for conducting PDS design reviews in coordination with the Govt SME to ensure that Navy communication systems and equipment comply with Department of Defense (DoD) and Navy PDS requirements. This involves reviewing system designs, schematics, and layouts to identify any potential vulnerabilities or risks to the PDS. The Engineer must have a thorough understanding of PDS requirements and be able to assess the adequacy of proposed designs.
-- Performing PDS Inspections of Navy Command Facilities
In addition to conducting design reviews, the PDS/TEMPEST Engineer is also responsible for performing PDS inspections of Navy command facilities in coordination with the Govt SME. This involves conducting site visits and identifying potential vulnerabilities or risks to the PDS. The Engineer must have a working knowledge of PDS infrastructure and equipment, as well as the ability to identify physical and technical vulnerabilities.
-- Reviewing Navy TEMPEST Requirements Questionnaires (TRQs)
The PDS/TEMPEST Engineer is also responsible for reviewing Navy TEMPEST Requirements Questionnaires (TRQs) and coordinating with the Govt SME to ensure that systems and facilities meet TEMPEST standards. This involves reviewing equipment specifications, schematics, and other technical documentation to ensure that equipment meets TEMPEST requirements. The Engineer must be familiar with TEMPEST standards and guidelines, as well as the specific equipment being reviewed.
-- Performing TEMPEST Inspections and Testing of Equipment
In addition to reviewing TRQs, the PDS/TEMPEST Engineer is responsible for performing TEMPEST inspections and testing of equipment in coordination with the Govt SME. This involves using specialized equipment and software to test equipment for electromagnetic emissions and other potential vulnerabilities. The Engineer must be familiar with and able to utilize electronic test equipment, such as antennas, receivers, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers.
-- Working Collaboratively with Other Engineers, Technicians, and Government Personnel
The PDS/TEMPEST Engineer must be able to work collaboratively with other engineers, technicians, and government personnel. This involves providing technical guidance and support, as well as working closely with other stakeholders to ensure that PDS and TEMPEST requirements are met. The Engineer must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a team environment. The PDS/TEMPEST Engineer will be overseen and trained as needed by government personnel.
Other duties will include monitoring functional e-mail boxes for the group and facilitating communication with Navy commands and Govt SMEs, uploading TEMPEST and PDS records to a sharepoint database, and helping communicate official correspondence to various Navy customers and commands.
-- Training
The PDS/TEMPEST Engineer must be able attend government training courses on a 1-time basis for a total of 6 weeks, not to be all at once, at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX.
-- Clearance
The PDS/TEMPEST Engineer must be able to obtain a SECRET clearance with the potential to go up to TS/SCI.
-- Travel
The PDS/TEMPEST engineer must be able to travel CONUS and OCONUS at minimum 25% during a given government fiscal period.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
2+ years experience.
3 + years of related experience
