Our work depends on a Senior Tax Accountant - Sales Tax joining our team to support the GDIT Tax Department activities in Herndon, VA.

At GDIT, people are our differentiator. As a Senior Tax Accountant - Sales Tax supporting the GDIT Tax Department, you will be trusted to support tax department strategy, planning and compliance functions. In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Tax Strategy and Planning:
    • Strategic tax planning, analysis, and communication
    • Identify/Support tax saving or risk mitigating opportunities
    • Research jurisdictional tax law and maintain current knowledge of tax laws affecting the company
    • Analyze and support tax ramifications of contract proposals
    • Provide guidance to non-tax functions regarding direct and indirect tax requirements

  • Accounting for Transaction Tax and Tax Compliance:
    • Analyze and prepare account reconciliations for transactional taxes
    • Preparation, review, and automation of indirect tax returns
    • Assist with maintenance of sales and use tax determination tool
    • Support audit inquiries and notices
    • Assist with preparation of federal and state income tax returns
    • Support corporate headquarters in audit inquiries
    • Participates/Assists in business unit tax and financial statement audits
    • Identify/Support process improvements and systems enhancements, and process automation


  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or relevant discipline
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with corporate taxation
  • US Citizenship for system access

  • Highly proficient and able to perform all responsibilities associated with the position
  • Grasps and applies new information quickly; handles more complex assignments
  • Shows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment, and professionally executes projects with little direction
  • Leadership and supervisory skills
  • In-depth knowledge of computer computerized Finance Systems
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Moderately complex financial analysis skills
  • Tax preparation or work experience with multi-state corporations
  • Handles moderately complex assignments and multiple projects at once
  • Intermediate knowledge of revenue recognition and profit analysis concepts and techniques
  • Intermediate knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley audit and reporting requirements
  • Intermediate Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Intermediate technical knowledge of Cost Accounting Standards (CAS)
  • Intermediate technical knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR)
  • Intermediate knowledge of Long-Term Accounting for Government contracts, Sarbanes-Oxley Act, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Financial Accounting Standards Board statements, Securities Exchange Act
  • Familiarity with Vertex
