The property turn-in center is responsible for coordinating the property turn-in activities for all personal property in the sponsor agency. This mainly refers to the secure destruction of all items and limited reutilization of some property. All items will be tracked and verified then disassembled per regulations. This offices personnel interact with all agency offices/officers foreign and domestic as well as all other on-site entities and commercial facility vendors. The main office is within a large warehouse located in Springfield, Virginia, and is a fast paced operation with a highly daily cargo volume of various size, weight and configuration. The office is comprised of a mix of approximately 25 staff employees and contractors working in multiple sections within the warehouse. The offices destruction operation is based at the Springfield warehouse location, segmented into 3 main groups. Receiving group coordinates with customers for drop-offs and deliveries as well as the standard truck deliveries of cargo. Cargo is then verified, and staged for next phase (destruction). Cargo then gets disassembled and sorted following standard operating procedure. Sorted and disassembled cargo is then re-inspected and moved through final destruction process by security verification team. Items are then sorted and staged for transport to the proper final disposal facilities for either shredding, burning or smelting as required. Candidate will need to be able to work autonomously when needed but normally will be within a team environment. Candidate must be able to communicate verbally and in written form. Must be computer proficient and be willing to learn office-specific databases. Candidates typically work schedules from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm. Candidate must be able to individually lift items weighing up to seventy (70) pounds and assist with team lifts of heavier items. Drivers must have the physical ability to properly secure cargo to trucks and trailers with cargo straps and chains as required, as well as offloading cargo trucks and trailers. Travel for this position is possible but highly unlikely. Must be able to obtain Forklift operating license. Key systems used are Microsoft Office software and internal database system. Candidate must have basic computer skills. Training is provided for the internal database system. Candidate will use forklifts and electric cart vehicles. Candidate will use material handling skills and adhere to local, state and federal safety regulations. Candidate should be proficient in the use of general material handling equipment to include: pallet jacks, hand-trucks, J-Bars, forklifts, crow bars, stretch wrap dispensers (manual and automatic) and tape dispensers, and truck related equipment, such as: cargo tie-down straps, chains, tarps and hand tools of all types including screwdrivers, hammers, cordless drills, etc. Candidate must dress in appropriate attire required to safely perform the work, to include wearing safety equipment specified by sponsor organization regulations. Candidate must always maintain a professional workplace manner and attitude when interacting with coworkers, customers, vendors, law enforcement authorities, and representatives from other government agencies. Candidate must seek to develop and maintain positive rapport with coworkers, customers and managers. Candidate will have opportunities for overtime and it will be on an as-needed basis to support mission requirements. Candidate is expected to maintain a clean and tidy workstation. Candidate should have the ability to move material and/or upload/download trucks by hand or by using material handling equipment (i.e. forklifts or pallet jacks). Candidate must be detail orientated and validate all shipping order numbers, piece counts and serial numbers for accurate record keeping and verification purposes. Must have the ability to professionally interact with customer base to set up drop off appointments and work with them face to face and via electronic means. Candidate must document all discrepancies and notify all relevant parties. The warehouseman is primarily responsible for the unloading and uploading of material, reviewing manifest, packing list and other documentation to ensure material is correctly addressed, labeled and that the correct number of boxes are received. Candidate is responsible for reviewing manifest, routing slips and other documentation to ensure material is correctly addressed, label and routing appropriately to the designated locations. Candidate is responsible for safely moving material and/or upload trucks by hand or by using handling equipment in a warehouse environment (i.e. forklifts or pallet jacks) in accordance with safety requirements and procedures. Duties may be performed indoors or outdoors and in all weather conditions. Responsible for effectively using logistics databases and applications. Ability to deal with multiple customers and priorities and to exercise good judgment in decision making and to be creative in problem solving. The selected candidate will have to move heavy equipment on some occasions to the warehouses and other facilities that sponsors office uses. The selected candidate should be able to obtain a considerable amount of knowledge of sponsor office and logistics policies and regulations that pertain to storage, shipping and handling of materials (to include specialized materials such as weapons, ammunition, and HAZMAT). The candidate is the front lines of the property turn-in center. All day activities will include coordinating, receiving, documenting and customer interactions. Candidate will be responsible for maintaining audit ready documentation for all transactions made through procurements, transfers or property turn-ins. Candidate will assist in the preparation and generation of annual/weekly reports, resolve discrepancies and conduct full inventories of respective equipment. The selected candidate will be responsible for determining disposition of property turn-in materials for re-use, destruction, or recycling.
