GDIT is looking for an IT Operations Active Directory/Server Engineer with expert knowledge and experience with implementing and administering enterprise-level systems. The position is in support of GDIT’s contract with the Administrative Office of United States Courts in Washington DC.


The successful candidate will work with Active Directory, systems, applications, and solutions for an enterprise-wide server systems and networks. This is a hands-on role that requires deep technical knowledge of Active Directory, systems, networks, and server applications along with a solid understanding of enterprise-level ITIL frameworks, policies, processes, and standards. The position requires strong critical thinking and analytical skills, attention to detail, and excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Work with systems engineers/administrators to facilitate remediation of incident tickets/alerts.
  • Interpret vulnerability scans and work with system owners to ensure remediation and compliance with Vulnerability Management policies.
  • Ability to participate in requirements gathering, and the development of resulting potential technical implementations
  • Collaborate with system administrators and engineers to ensure proper integration of applications. 
  • Work collaboratively with the team to identify, select, and implement technical controls
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining comprehensive documentation for multiple environments (e.g., Work Instructions, SOPs)
  • Develop and maintain standards and procedures for applications across a complex computing infrastructure.
  • Ensure that deployments conform to approved design standards following documented SOPs and Work Instructions
  • Review deployment lifecycle of existing systems and remediate to ensure alignment with standards where necessary
  • Setup and maintain health monitors for operating systems, installed applications to ensure service availability.
  • Respond to health monitor alerts in a timely fashion and resolve issue to prevent future occurrence.
  • Monitor application performance to ensure availability and integration with other technical controls, services, and components
  • Provide escalation support for operational issues; opens service tickets with support contractors / repair providers and network service providers as needed. Tracks repairs until completion.
  • Maintain and monitor asset contracts, licenses, and support agreements.
  • Identify, document, and implement changes using enterprise change approval process.
  • Administer Content Filtering policies and services in accordance with the Administrative Office of U.S. Courts Security Policy.
  • Assist in identifying incidents, diagnosing, and resolving application problems.
  • Participate in capacity planning, performance discussions, and assist in the development and execution of disaster recovery exercises. 
  • Provides phone support to users during the time of peak demand as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Provide daily operational support for enterprise applications 



  • At least 8 years total IT experience, with 2-5 years of experience as a server engineer in an enterprise environment
  • Experience managing multi-domain Windows Infrastructure and resource migration from one domain to another.
  • Experience coordinating and overseeing the implementation of security patches and remediation of security vulnerabilities.
  • Knowledge of application security settings and other commercial security best practices
  • Knowledge of the operating characteristics of various operating systems, RedHat Linux, Windows server 2012 R2/2016/2019, VMWare ESX.
  • Knowledge of enterprise processes such as PowerShell, Group Policies, multi-factor authentication and VPN.
  • Knowledge of general management and auditing techniques for identifying problems, gathering, and analyzing pertinent information, forming conclusions, developing solutions, and implementing plans consistent with management goals.
  • Plan, manage and provide guidance pertaining to server lifecycle (i.e., hardware and software, installation, and upgrade). Work frequently requires the candidate to be involved in diverse projects simultaneously, several of which may have equally high priority.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to multitask and function in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent customer support skills (In-person and on the phone).
  • Experience automating repeatable processes using PowerShell
  • Experience documenting processes and creating work instructions
  • Experience working as a part of a large team and working directly with customers.


  • Knowledge of Web Services and Services Oriented Architecture is desirable.
  • Experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining Windows server products including IIS, Windows Clustering, Network Load Balancer, Certificate, and Proxy server.
  • Experience troubleshooting network connectivity issues involving Firewalls, Load Balancers, and Proxy servers.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 services
  • Experience with enterprise resource monitoring tools such as Solarwinds, DynaTrace is a plus
  • Technical knowledge of and experience with installing, upgrading, configuring, and deploying multi-tier applications
  • Experience with Linux operating systems
  • Knowledge of Remedy ticketing system


  • Master’s degree required

Certifications relating to Microsoft Operating Systems, VMWare, ITIL and Security preferred, or enough skills/experience to complement
