As a Contributing Editor, supporting the Armed Forces Health Surveillance Division (AFHSD) of the Defense Health Agency (DHA), you will support the Medical Surveillance Monthly Report (MSMR).

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Reviewing and providing substantive feedback for all manuscripts submitted to the MSMR
  • Proofreading and editing MSMR manuscripts prior to publication
  • Developing and writing MSMR manuscripts including identification of topics for publication, related literature reviews, development of analysis plans, review of analytic results, and interpretation of results
  • Planning and designing sound epidemiological analyses as the basis for MSMR publication including the creation of standardizing surveillance case definitions
  • Attending weekly MSMR staff meetings to review and discuss publication timelines

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s in Public Health, Epidemiology or related degree
  • 5 + years of related experience preparing and editing scientific reports and manuscripts
  • Experience writing manuscripts for peer reviewed scientific or medical journals demonstrated through named authorship on published papers
  • Experience serving as a reviewer for at least one peer reviewed scientific or medical journal
  • Experience with military public health
  • Be able to meet deadlines and manage publication timelines
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • US Citizenship and have the ability to obtain a secret clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MD (Doctor of Medicine) or DO (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) with board certification  in preventive medicine (PM) or occupational medicine (OM)
  • Prior military service
  • Active Secret clearance
  • Experience with American Medical Association (AMA) Manual of Style

The likely hourly rate for this position is between $70.40 - $105.60, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
