At GDIT, people are our differentiator. We are seeking a Sr. Network Engineer to join our team in support of the Center for Information Technology (CIT) Network Services program at NIH in Bethesda. In this role you will help ensure the integrity of the NIH Network and perform regular upgrades, maintenance, and support. We are looking for critical thinkers and innovators with cutting-edge ideas.

In this role, a typical day will include:
• Reviewing Service Now Network Service tickets.
• Performing Network Service maintenance.
•Meeting with Network Services team and customers to provide solutions.
Maintain the integrity of Network Services.
Manage systems and workflows within the NIH Network that keep the Network running.This includes installing patches, updates and maintaining network stability, ensuring proper configuration standards and monitoring systems, power, and cooling.
Address the day-to-day refresh requirements
Manage and maintain all drawings to include rack elevations
Maintain good communication with customers
Create new VLANs and set up VPC’s
Assist with Requirements gathering
Perform basic routing
Rack and Stack equipment
Perform cabling of copper and fiber
Create Change Requests.
BS/BA or equivalent and five years related experience or a MS and three years related experience
Five years experience in network administration
In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF)
Familiarity with access control models and network security
Experience with network diagnostics, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g. SolarWinds)
Solid understanding of network operating systems (JUNOS, Cisco IOS)
Sharp troubleshooting skills
Familiarity with Cisco Nexus and catalyst switches
Experience with Infoblox
Ability to obtain a Public Trust
Professional certification (e.g. CCNP, CCDP)
Knowledge of coding languages for scripting (e.g Python, Perl)
Good understanding of port mapping and Port configurations
Be able to lift 50 pounds
Good understanding of DNS and the relationship to the equipment that is being used.
