GDIT is looking for a leader to transform our HR records and I-9 management systems.  We are a top-tier contractor with 30K+ active employees and growth through recent acquisition.  This new position will have two primary roles:  lead the HR Records & Compliance team and programs; and lead the future-state consolidation of multiple legacy records systems.  

Our ideal candidate will have the vision and expertise to 1) identify single-platform solutions for HR records and I-9 management, 2) direct the transition from multiple legacy systems, 3) strategically manage all HR records-related programs, and 4) manage people and processes equally well.  In addition to technical knowledge, we seek a true team leader who can guide our 4-person HR Records team through organizational growth and change.  The position requires a person who can provide the full range of leadership:  large-scale vision and execution, mid-range project management, and daily team workflow. 


  • Transform and integrate HR records management systems: Evaluate and recommend a document information management solution to integrate high volume, multi-format legacy employee records.  Manage system implementation and legacy record migration in partnership with IT.
  • Transform and integrate the I-9 management system:  Evaluate current I-9 management systems and recommend a single platform solution to integrate existing, archived, and future I-9 management. Manage system implementation and legacy record migration in partnership with IT. 
  • Manage existing records and I-9 systems:  Ongoing management, inventory, maintenance, and retention of existing HR records and I-9s in multiple platforms and formats, including offsite paper management.
  • Subject matter expert:  Provide center-of-excellence expertise on records management and I-9 administration.  Administer enterprise-wide HR record management processes, policies, procedures, and solutions for capturing, securing, storing, cataloging, retrieving, archiving, and sharing records, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and privacy requirements.
  • Lead the HR Records team:  Provide leadership, talent development, and daily guidance for four+ team members who support Records Management and I-9 system support processes. 
  • Process management:  Manage the day-to-day Records Management processes, including, but not limited to, maintaining a current and accurate inventory of records systems; maintaining procedures and processes to capture, store, and audit records; developing training programs; updating support documentation materials for team members; and developing an HR strategic records management plan.
  • Program management:  litigation holds; employment verifications; internal and external audit support; security clearance records review; expert records support for Legal, internal and external customers; center-of-excellent support for I-9 compliance; vendor relationships; general HR compliance programs at federal, state and local levels; subpoena and other record request processes.
  • Retention:  Administers HR records retention program and the systematic retention, transfer, storage, and disposal of HR records in accordance with policy and legal requirements.
  • Data Privacy:  Collaborates to implement strategies for ensuring highest-level data privacy for records and data, including communication, training, and incident investigation processes.
  • Maintains current knowledge of and monitor legislation, regulations, and other legal requirements and best practices pertaining to Records Management systems and procedures.


  • Bachelor’s degree, OR equivalent combination of related education, training and relevant experience
  • Minimum 5+ years related experience in records management
  • Experience with independently managing large-scale, high-volume records/document management systems, to include both electronic and physical records 
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and evaluate current marketplace options and recommend future-state solutions for record management needs 
  • Ability to manage the implementation of systems-based solutions and migration in collaboration with IT professionals 
  • Ability to independently manage multiple long-term, mid-term, and short-term projects from initiation to completion 
  • Experience with managing and developing team members, and prioritizing team projects
  • Proficiency with MS Office functions (Excel in particular) is required 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, collaboration and customer service skills required


  • Experience with Human Resources and I-9 document retention solutions is preferred
  • Experience with high-volume HR Information Systems (such as Workday, PeopleSoft) or similar database systems preferred
  • Knowledge of legal requirements related to record retention and I-9 management preferred
  • Experience in Human Resources and/or Legal support is helpful
  • Experience with SharePoint environment is helpful

The likely salary range for this position is $88,000 - $132,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
