Scientist

Key SMAVCS3 consumers include EPA Office of Research and Development’s (ORD) Chemical Safety for Sustainability program, Office of Pesticides, Office of Water, and Office of Pollutants and Toxicants risk assessment programs.

HOW A SCIENTIST WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
● This position provides an excellent opportunity to showcase and expand your experience compiling and curating existing ecotoxicology data with special emphasis on understanding experimental design and the application/ interpretation of statistical concepts.


● Our interdisciplinary team works together to identify and acquire applicable ecotoxicology literature, to curate these publications for data extraction and to post the data for use on EPA’s ECOTOX Knowledgebase website.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

● The primary responsibility, under general supervision of the project leader, is to curate ecotoxicology data for inclusion in the ECOTOXicology Knowledge Base (ECOTOX KB).


● Education: MS degree in the fields of ecotoxicology, biology, chemistry, or related fields.


● Required Experience: 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in the fields of ecotoxicology, biology, chemistry, or related fields.


● Required Technical Skills:

  • Experience analyzing environmental toxicology data including experimental design and the application/ interpretation of statistical concepts.
  • Familiarity with peer reviewed journal article and technical report formats.
  • Experience developing presentation materials, technical documentation, Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of common software applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe; general skills in learning and basic use of a wide range of software including but not limited to bibliographic, data entry and quality assurance, statistical analysis, and data plotting software.

● Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, interpret and apply guidelines, standard operating procedures, methodologies.
  • Experience synthesizing, interpreting, and communicating scientific information.
  • Ability to provide technical expertise to team members and users to help resolve project-related problems.
  • Experience analyzing environmental toxicology data including experimental design and the application/ interpretation of statistical concepts.

● Preferred Skills:

  • Quick to learn new skill sets and ability to happily re-prioritize your projects at the drop of a hat.
  • Detail-oriented with a positive, solution-oriented attitude.
  • Self-starter with the ability to complete individual tasks which contribute to a larger framework.
  • Ability to meet deadlines as required by the position.
  • Experience working with cross functional teams.                                    
  • Experience working and communicating with a wide range of people.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Experience participating in meetings and conference calls.
