At GDIT, people are our differentiator. The Database Administrator II (DBA) is responsible for implementing, modifying, and deploying software affecting mission critical networks/systems as well as determining ways to organize and store data. The DBA will identify user requirements, set up computer databases, and test and coordinate modifications to the computer database systems. DBA ensures the performance of the system, understands the platform on which the database runs, and adds new users to the system. Finally, the DBA plans and coordinates security measures and has a knowledge of data integrity, backup systems, and database security.
HOW THE DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR II WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
This Database Administrator II performs the following core functions:
Perform server and storage capacity management and planning for the most complex and critical systems.
Recommend and implement process and tool improvements to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization's change management and configuration management processes and systems.
Perform server performance tuning.
Utilize system software to monitor the performance of system files; manages system data to maintain performance efficiencies.
Study system requirements to determine proper server installation methods and procedures.
Provide technical support in the evaluation of prime object names, data elements, and other objects Ensure that proposed object definitions are clear, concise, technically correct, and that they represent singular concepts.
Answer users' inquiries regarding computer software and hardware operation to resolve problems Enter commands and observe system functioning to verify correct operations and detect errors Install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, and peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications.
Confer with management, users, and management to establish requirements for new systems or modifications.
Conduct computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems and to provide technical assistance and support.
Plan and test capacity requirements.
Inspect equipment and read order sheets to prepare for delivery to users.
Performs other duties as assigned at the direction of Project Management.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Active TS/SCI with Polygraph
Bachelor’s degree preferred, in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a Scientific or technical discipline related to the specific skill
No degree + seven (7) years of relevant experience
Associate’s degree + five (5) years of relevant experience
Bachelor’s degree + three (3) years of relevant experience
Minimum of three (3) years of experience to the specific skill. Someone that is fully capable of delivering capabilities related to a particular skill, language, system or technology. Ability, training and actual work experience with specific computer language, systems, and/or technology is significantly more important than the number of years of experience. This is especially true with emerging technologies.
Experience with Oracle
Knowledge of Oracle Administration, Oracle system maintenance on Windows environment
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Active TS/SCI with Poly with most recent BI/Polygraph dates within the last five years
Experience with older versions of Oracle, especially Oracle 11g Advanced Replication experience
Experience with Backup Exec in a Virtual environment
