GDIT Technology Shared Services is seeking an Expert Network Engineer to join our team in support of Technology Shared Services Platforms.  In this role you will be designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large-scale enterprise networks in multi tenant Data Centers, on-prem and cloud environments using your strong understanding of routing, switching, LAN/WAN technologies and Firewall technologies. This position requires proven competencies, demonstrated successes, certifications and the ability to apply industry best practices in the network engineering space including a heavy emphasis on Firewall technologies.   A primary responsibility for this role will be to provide Engineering thought leadership and collaborating with peers within a growing technology organization.

This opportunity can work 100% remotely from home and is open nationwide.  


The Expert Engineer will be responsible for the workflow involved in maintaining our customers network services.  You will be responsible for designing and implementing advanced network technology solutions and resolving highly complex production and support issues and directly participate in analysis and documentation of improvement opportunities by recommending and driving best of breed technology approaches with proper standards and best practices. This role will interface directly with the customers at times as well as internal stakeholders.

  • Work across teams, and external customer groups to develop strategy, design solutions, and advise implementation teams during deployment.
  • Trouble shoot and resolve network outages
  • Build and maintain technical relationships with managers of the organization and technology providers by leading and facilitating  network services discussions and aligning solutions with client needs.
  • Provide communication, ensuring that managers, team members, stakeholders within the organization, and clients are kept informed of relevant trends and projects.
  • Research new or alternative technologies, document findings, conduct pilots and evaluate multiple vendors and make recommendations.
  • Deal with escalations. Make assessments, recommendations or provide solutions to resolve issues.
  • Mentor our junior level staff and ensuring they are up to speed on critical processes and technologies.
  • Write functional requirements/specifications documents.
  • Guide the selection, implementation and deployment processes for new network technology rollouts.


Required skills and experience:

  • BA/BS and 15+ years of experience. (Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related area is preferred)
  • Expert level in Firewall Technologies (deployment, maintenance, trouble shooting/problem resolution)
  • Desired network certifications  - Cisco CCIE Security, CCIE Routing/Switching, Palo Alto PCNSE, others 
  • Certifications must be current and active
  • Team lead experience
  • Although this role is not planned to require clearances at this time, the candidate should be able acquire a DoD clearance in the future and there for citizenship is required

Desired skills and experience:

  • Advanced degree
  • Cloud certifications are a plus
  • An active CCIE certification
  • SDWAN – Silver Peak, VeloCloud and Viptela
  • SDDC – ACI, VMware NSX
  • Firewall experience
  • NetScaler experience

The likely salary range for this position is $136,000 - $204,000, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
