Leads the ship-board activities of employees involved in the installation of major systems aboard US Navy and Military Sealift Command Ships, working within established ship installation processes. Must demonstrate the ability to work within the guidelines of NAVSEA Technical Specification 9090-310(series) for project management, coordination, authorization, and safety. Must have a working knowledge of the NAVSEA Standard Items. Will be required to assist the Installation Manager and Quality Assurance (QA) department with developing Controlled Work Packages (CWPs) and Formal Work Packages (FWPs) or other Technical Work Documents (TWDs) to provide written instructions to perform work aboard Naval Surface Ships and/or Submarines.
Must be a team player, comfortable working and communicating with all levels; be able to speak clearly and possess basic computer skills. Must be capable of working extended hours aboard U.S. Navy vessels in a shipyard industrial environment.
Specific responsibilities are:
BA/BS in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training or work experience.
Requires a High School Diploma or GED., plus technical/vocational training, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience.
Associates Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred
8-10 years of related experience in hull, mechanical and/or electrical shipboard repair and alteration. Four years of experience as a Team Leader/Foreman in the ship repair/AIT industry. The candidate must also have experience leading multiple teams of installers in cable installation, welding, paint, and lagging installation and repair on U.S. Navy Ships.
Must have Subject Matter Expertise with NAVSEA installation guidelines and welding requirements and the requirements for paint sample collection, asbestos sample collection, and gas-free assessment.
Must work within an established Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M) while leading multiple teams of installers, to meet strict schedules.
Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to access and crawl/climb into tight and cumbersome spaces on U.S. Navy surface ships and submarines.
Must have experience working with the Microsoft Office Software Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Must be a U.S. Citizen able to obtain a Secret security clearance.
