In this role, responsibilities include:

  • Analyzes customer requirements and solves unusually complex technical problems and provides solutions which are highly innovative.
  • Provides expert knowledge for the design, development, build, analysis, evaluation, installation, and administration of database management systems to include database modeling and design, relational database architecture, non-relational database architecture and procedures, metadata and repository creation and configuration management.
  • Designs and implements databases with respect to access methods, access time, batch processes, device allocation, validation checks, organization, ETL tasks, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods
  • Prepares system requirements, source analysis and process analyses and design throughout the database implementation.
  • Defines and oversees database organizations, standards, controls, procedures, and documentation.
  • Provides technical consulting in the definition, design, and creation of a database environment.
  • Advises applications development staff and users on data-based solutions to business problems, data architectures, database management system facilities and capabilities, and the operation and tuning of databases.
  • Maintains current and advanced knowledge of progressive and advancing technology as assigned.
  • Provides expert guidance and leadership to less-experienced database personnel.
  • May serve as a task or project leader. (Not a people manager)
  • Consults with executives and customers to deliver complex database solutions.
  • Recognized as an industry leader in database solutions

Required Experience

  • BA/BS (or equivalent experience), 10+ years of experience in source to target mappings from disparate data sources
  • Experience in writing and maintaining data dictionaries
  • Experience in contributing to System Design Documents (SDDs)
  • Experience in architecting solutions for both normalized and denormalized solutions, application database architecture
  • Relational database design and best practice approaches
  • UINIX and cloud command line interface (CLI) skills (AWS, Snowflake, Hive)
  • Experience with serverless architecture
  • Experience with code pipelines through lower environments to production; development, test, production (dev, tst, prd) Unit testing
  • Job scheduler tools design and development
  • Experience in designing around security principles such as row and column level security and secure views

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Healthcare claims experience
  • Experience in data structures
  • Understanding strengths and weaknesses of Kimball and Inman data warehousing approaches
  • Machine Learning Artificial Intelligence concepts
  • Atlassian Tools (Jira & Confluence)
  • Experience working as a member of a Scrum development team
  • Experience in a cloud environment using native cloud services to process data (GLUE, Trifacta, Matillion, Apache etc.)
  • Experience in Git based repositories (Bitbucket, Code commit, Github etc.)
  • Experience in Hadoop, Elastic Map Reduce (EMR) Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks
  • Automation testing
