The Task 5: Server Services group provides infrastructure support of EPA Windows, Unix, and VMware information systems on hardware located primarily in Durham, NC, and Washington, D.C., with satellite data centers in Denver, Colorado, and Chicago, IL, and tenants in Azure and AWS. The Unix Team Lead will provide project and resource leadership for Unix Systems Engineers, monitor technical process and direction, and occasionally assist with Tier1/2 O&M.
The primary roles this position fulfils are ensuring the equitable distribution of Operational and Project workload amongst the Unix Systems Engineers, facilitating completion of all Unix Tasks and Deliverables within Contract Service Level Agreements, reviewing draft Operational Procedures, and providing supplemental operational support. This responsibility requires familiarity with Unix in both on-premise and Cloud environments and technical contribution is expected. The primary work effort is resource and process management, but technical escalation will be involved periodically. The Unix Team Senior Engineers are expected to hand most technical difficulties, but the lead will ensure design and implementation is within EPA policy and facilitates contract deliverables.
Additional elements of this position will include:
Authoring Requirements and Design Documents, Work Instructions, SOPs, etc.
Attending Project Planning meetings and assigning Server Builds or related tasks
Coordinating with Windows and VMware Leads to ensure collaboration and communication amongst teams.
Act as the first step in customer escalation events.

Manage Unix Team Work Schedule
10 Years Experience in Information Systems Management and/or Support
5 Years experience supporting RHEL or managing a RHEL Systems Admin Team
1 Years experience Managing Projects involving AWS or Azure
At least one current or expired technical Certification (RHCE, RHCSA)
Organized and motivated team player, with the ability to manage multiple projects while paying close attention to detail
Highly responsible, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision
Results oriented person with the ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment
Strong communicator (both verbal and written) skills are a must
Prior experience on a Government Contract
Project Management Certification
Proficiency with an Enterprise Monitoring Systems
Familiarity with Service Now
