Job Description

Our work depends on a Data Science Consultant joining our team to support our federal Health & Science client activities in Bethesda, MD.   

At GDIT, people are our differentiator. As a Data Science Consultant supporting our Federal Health Division, you will work on cutting-edge programs and our client’s mission to enhance health, lengthen life, and reduce illness and disability.  In this role, a typical day will include:

  • General Data Science support. 
  • Participate and provide expertise in data science related working groups, workshops, and webinars. 
  • Preparing meeting minutes, agendas, recommending speakers, and ensuring sufficient logistic support.
  • Bioinformatic support. 
  • Developing consistent methods and processes for data management, data standards, and data harmonization. 
  • Identifying, assessing, designing, and implementing cutting-edge approaches in areas such as cloud-based tools, workflow and pipeline development and implementing complex informatics.
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) / Machine Learning (ML) expertise.  
  • Develop and assist with the execution of plans for overseeing co-funded projects related to data science, bioinformatics, and AI/ML focused biomedical products such as machine learning models, expert advisory systems that are focused on identification of opportunities, design, and development of advanced data focused solutions.
  • Project management and communications support services.
  • Assist business processes; tracking internal milestones and budgets; and suggesting solutions to any risks and/or issues that arise.
  • Attend and report back on relevant community events including workshops and webinars.
 

Required Education and Experience Qualifications: 

  • BS degree and 10 years of experience or a MS degree and 6 years of experience in science-related and/or public health-related field, 
  • At least one year of experience related to the position, including achievement in areas that demonstrate the individual has received recognition as an expert in the field,
  • Demonstrated track-record of ability to strategically lead complex scientific research and product development programs and conduct regular assessments
  • Experience coordinating bioinformatics and emerging technology programs, experience building collaborations,
  • Excellent written, oral and visual communication skills
  • Expertise in bioinformatics and biostatistics, particularly the informatics methods applied to genomic and other -omics data, image processing, artificial intelligence and machine learning

Preferred qualifications (optional): 

  • Prefer Master’s degree in science or public health field,
  • Experience and comfort in dealing with complex scientific and technical information beyond own area of expertise,
  • Experience applying traditional project management approaches to scientific projects,
  • HHS experience, and
  • Experience with Project Online.

Attributes/Skills for Success:

  • Experience managing and executing scientific-related projects,
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project and scheduling best practices,
  • Proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex project management theories into easy-to-understand guidance,
  • Comfort in interacting with federal senior leadership and scientists,
  • Desire to collaborate in a team environment and provide excellent customer service to clients, and
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Work Environment/Schedule:

  • Position is currently remote but when “return to work” plans are finalized, the position will require hybrid (combination of onsite and remote) support in Bethesda, MD
  • Flexible schedule is available in accordance with core business hours.

Federal security clearance:

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust security clearance, and
  • U.S, citizenship is required.
