The NOAA Research and Development High Performance Computing System (RDHPCS) Program is expanding to utilize additional network engineers to update and expand the robust and reliable network environment across multiple NOAA sites in support of scientific weather and climate workflows. This position will be responsible for the design, architecture, deployment, and support of a multi-site network environment.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
Architect, design, and managing the installation and support of network communications, including HPC scale LAN systems.
Working on complex problems where analysis of the situation requires in-depth evaluation of various factors.
Planning large-scale systems projects through vendor comparison and cost studies.
Monitoring and responding to complex technical control HPC communication problems utilizing a variety of hardware and software testing tools and techniques.
Providing primary interface with vendor support service groups, and providing internal analysis and support to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded system performance.
Support systems administrators to troubleshoot user runtime issues.
Monitor, tune, and manage high speed network resources
Assist users in optimizing workflows within the multi-site network environment
Bachelor's degree and 3+ years' experience in a computer/scientific field
Familiarity in all phases of HPC/LAN administration
Experience working in a 24X7 operational environment
Experience with Linux-based systems
Bachelor's degree and 5+ years' experience in a computer/scientific field
Extensive knowledge of HPC/LAN communications hardware/software in a multi-protocol environment and network management software.
Experience with HPC environments, including LAN routers, switches, firewalls from vendors such as Juniper, Dell, Cisco, Brocade
Experience with HPC-related networks and monitoring tools, such as high speed networks (25, 40, and 100 GbE), Perfsonar, SNMP, Zabbix, Infiniband
Experience with weather or climate scientific applications
