This is an unpaid fellowship through the Department of Defense (DoD) SkillBridge Program. The fellow selected for this role will not receive compensation or benefits from GDIT and will not be an employee, agent, or contractor of GDIT but rather will remain an employee of the DoD and will receive compensation and benefits through the DoD.

GDIT is seeking a Datacenter Facilities Technician for Hosting, Operations and Maintenance (HOM) services for the Healthcare Integrated General Ledger Accounting System (HIGLAS) contract.  This contract is for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

You will be responsible for Datacenter Facilities Operations at the Austin, TX datacenter. You will work with a team of engineers to sustain Datacenter operations.

Task and responsibilities in this role include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the data center including the preventive   maintenance of the PDUs and security systems.

  • Monitoring and maintenance of Physical Access Control, Security Cameras and Alarms Systems.

  • Performed installation projects that include racking network equipment and power connections.

  • Assessment of Data Center facilities including recommendations and implementation to remediate issues resulting in cost savings in equipment operations.   

  • Supply expert knowledge on data center topics.

  • Maintains inventory of Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) hardware.

  • Enters information into approved inventory systems and provide reports on hardware items and locations as directed.

  • Vendor coordination and escorting for implementing new and existing hardware and support.

  • Install Fiber optic cabling to ensure network connectivity is at optimal performance levels.

  • Plan and schedule work to perform in the Data Center during Monday through Friday business hours on a weekly basis

  • Weekend work will be required occasionally; must be able to work independently Day to Day.

  • Work with various cable types to include but not limited to: twisted pair (stranded, solid conductor low voltage, Category 6), SMF and MMF cables.

  • Pulling, placement, termination, testing, and labeling.

  • Manage physical access to enterprise datacenters and to the racks in the datacenters.

  • Design and manage rack layouts and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.

  • Provide equipment accountability and coordination of Data Center equipment installations/removal.

  • Advise the Installations and Logistics Office of power, space, and cooling requirements and/or concerns.

  • Provide Data Center weekly status reports to Contractor Program Manager and government representatives.


  • 4 years active military service or a Bachelor’s Degree in a Computer Science, Business Information Technology or related technical discipline; OR equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.

  • 2 years of IT experience (this is included in the 4 years of service, not 4 plus 2 )

  • Experience with MS Excel, Word, Visio, and PowerPoint.  

  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty

  • Can participate within the last 6 months of separation or retirement

  • Will receive an honorable discharge.

  • Has taken any service TAP/TGPS.

  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months.

  • Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of the fellowship.

  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.

  • Must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder to be considered for this position.


  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the data center including the preventive   maintenance of the PDUs, and Security Systems.

  • Install Fiber optic/Copper cabling to ensure network connectivity is at optimal performance levels Must be able to work independently Day to Day.

  • Rack and stack infrastructure equipment to include servers, network, and firewall devices.


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
