GDIT s military health team is HIRING a Computational Biologist / Bioinformatician to support the 59th Medical Wing (MDW), located at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

The 59th Medical Wing Science and Technology (ST) office advises and conducts clinical and translational research on matters pertaining to the medical aspects of the Air Expeditionary Force and the health of Air Force (AF) personnel and beneficiaries. In order to support the required research, ST offices conduct translational research in the areas of emergency medical care, combat casualty care, force health protection, restorative medicine, clinical and rehabilitative medicine and specialty centers.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Support Government PIs in planning and developing best practice data management and analysis protocols for proposed and on-going projects.
  • Consult with research scientists to determine computational strategies as well as the selection and use of project specific bioinformatics tools.
  • Develop new or customize existing software applications to meet specific project needs.
  • Applying bioinformatics tools or applications in areas such as proteomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, and clinical bioinformatics.
  • Create novel computational approaches and analytical tools as required by research objectives.
  • Analyze large molecular datasets, such as raw microarray data, genomic sequence data, and proteomics data for mining trends to support specific project purposes.
  • Attend and participate in meetings with programmatic staff to provide guidance on data management needs.
  • Prepare and present data and research findings to internal and external collaborators as well as stakeholders.

What You’ll Need (required):

  • Master’s Degree in Computational Biology or Bioinformatics.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in designing and developing models, databases, and software for analysis of clinical and research bioinformatics data preferred.
