Our work depends on a Data Modeler joining our team remotely to support the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) activities.

At GDIT, our people are at the center of everything we do. As a Data Modeler supporting CMS, you will be trusted to research best practices and support developing the solutions and recommendations for the current business operations. You will perform routine business analysis using various techniques (e.g. statistical analysis, explanatory and predictive modeling, data mining), provide business data interpretation, work with internal and external clients to identify analytical requirements, and produce ad hoc data and reports. In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Supporting new and existing development projects through the development and completion of entity, logical, and physical data models and process modeling activities
  • Working with internal and external members of an agile team to identify analytical requirements, and produce ad hoc data and reports
  • Developing, documenting, and maintaining technical solutions and design artifacts for various system components, including visual diagrams and processing flows
  • Maintaining and updating Database Design Documents (DDDs)
  • Participating in data governance processes related to data quality and information management 
  • Identifying and recommending potential system improvements for the existing processing and data flows
  • Defining data sources and data models
  • Documenting actual data flows, data exchanges, system interconnections, and systems interfaces, ensuring that these are aligned with the enterprise data model


  • Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of relevant experience with big data
  • Hands-on experience with data modeling, data mapping, logical and physical models, and scripts.
  • Hands-on experience defining and implementing conceptual, logical, and physical data models, defining data sources and data models, documenting actual data flows, data exchanges, and systems interconnections and interfaces.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS data tools, including: Databricks, RDS, Amazon EMR, Amazon Aurora, and Amazon RedShift
  • Must be able to obtain Public Trust clearance
  • Must have lived in the United States at least three (3) out of the last five (5) years


  • US citizen or a Green Card holder
  • Experience working with Provider, Beneficiary, Medicare, Claims, and/or state Medicaid data
  • Experience creating data dictionaries as well as logical and physical models
  • Expert level design/development skills for Extensible Markup Language (XML) schemas
  • EXML Stylesheet Language for Transformation [XSLT] skills
  • Expert level Microsoft Visio
  • Understanding of key technical aspects of large data processing systems
  • Ability to define and to implement conceptual, logical, and physical data models
  • Ability to drive detail design and to engage with technical leads and developers
  • Ability to analyze and/or define detailed data flows through a system (with an emphasis on data ingestion, validation, error handling, storage, and dissemination)

The likely salary range for this position is $77,875 - $130,062, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
