Network Engineer (WAN)
Provides mid to senior level engineering support for agency enterprise network solutions.  Supports network engineering design and the implementation of technology refreshes across the DLA enterprise, consisting of over two hundred sites.  This position works under general supervision, developing requirements from inception to conclusion.  Work is primarily performed from a GDIT facility in Springfield, VA.  Travel varies depending on customer requirements, but can be expected to be between 10 and 25%.

Duties Include:

  • Planning, performing, and documenting laboratory assessments of hardware and software for both the classified and unclassified DISN Services to ensure proper connectivity and operations between the DLA WAN, the DLA's NOC, and DISA's NOCs.
  • Coordinating with the government customer to create a Technology Assessment Plan (TAP) to include the objectives, scope, equipment and configurations, technical approach, procedures, schedules, and roles and responsibilities required to complete the technology refresh and upgrades. These assessments may include independent cost estimates.
  • Identifying new and emerging network capabilities as well as developing product evaluation and selection criteria.
  • Developing system evaluations methods and procedures.
  • Ensuring interoperability between DLA WAN, ETN/SoETN and DISN network equipment and services.
  • Planning and tracking of implementation tasks.
  • Creating necessary supporting configuration artifacts such as network maps, detailed designs, test plans, operations readiness test reports, device configurations, and maintenance processes and procedures.
  • Providing Subject Matter Expert (SME) engineering services to the government customer.
  • The selected candidate will also review industry and government data relative to technology changes affecting the DISN and commercial telecommunications sector and provide preliminary design and implementation data to support the strategic planning process.


  • Five (5) years of progressive technology and network engineering experience.
  • Clearance: Active Secret with SSBI or Top Secret.
  • Certifications Required:
    • IAT-II certification - (ie, Security +, CCNA Security, GSEC)

Note: if you do not have a IAT-III certification, we will help you obtain one. This position will eventually require a IAT-III certification within the first 6 months

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
  • CheckPoint Certified Security Expert (CCSE) (CCSE can be attained after start).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IAT-III Certification (Must have one of the following): CASP+CE, CCNP Security, CISA, CISSP, GCED, GCIH.

Skills and Experience:

  • Working knowledge of:
    • BGP.
    • MPLS and LDP in a service provider environment.
    • Network design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
    • Device configuration (Multi-vendor environment).
    • Wired, wireless, voice, and video technologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple assigned projects and report status and implementation plans.
  • Network engineering experience in unclassified and classified environments.
