This office is responsible for receiving verification and processing all incoming and outgoing sponsor material transported via the U.S. government official pouch system. Our mission is to provide world-class customer support for pouch services through professional partnerships, oversight, policy, communication, and training. The office interacts with internal sponsor components as well as other agencies and third party shipping/transportation vendors. The office is located within sponsor's warehouse located in Springfield, VA. It is a fast paced and dynamic warehouse environment with a high daily cargo volume of various size, weight and configuration. The office area is within the warehouse. Office is comprised of a mix of approximately ten sponsor employees and contractors working at the Springfield site. The logistics generalist performs pouch receiving and distribution throughout each work day, with a large volume of materials of various shapes, sizes and weights. The majority of requests are short notice with critical completion times. candidate will be required to multitask and operate with specific direction from contractor and sponsor supervisors . Candidate will be required to work both independently and in a team environment helping to process both inbound and outbound pouch shipments. Logistics generalists provide a positive customer experience by communicating with customers in a thorough and supportive manner.

The Developmental Logistics Generalists create, submit, and process and oversee a high volume of customer request through sponsor-specific applications, databases and email. In accordance with the office standard operating procedures, candidates quickly learn the most effective and efficient transportation methods available to meet required delivery dates. The logistics generalist serves as the primary office POC for stakeholders and customers, and are required to conduct follow up inquiries with shipping partners to return interim and status updates to customers within 24-48 hours, or sooner if required. Candidates must acquire delivery method proficiency across a variety of transportation schedules of other government agencies that are used by sponsor components. They are expected to become proficient in packing and shipping requirements of pouch shipments, and to coordinate directly with sponsor customer for any shipment that does meet required specifications. The logistics generalist manually checks inventory of boxes to verify accuracy; and executes correct wrapping and documentation according to method of shipment. Candidates are detail oriented and provide a positive customer experience by communicating with customers in a thorough and supportive manner; remaining patient and responsive to customer inquiries. Candidates must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in written form.  Candidate must be available to work before and/or after core hours, as required, to fulfill sponsor requirements. Must have the ability to individually lift items weighing up to 50 lbs, as required to accomplish daily tasks and to assist with team lifts of heavier items. Must be able and willing to use forklift on daily basis to maneuver material for shipment. Candidates may be required to travel and work from sponsor facilities within the local northern VA area and may have occasional opportunities to travel to locations within the continental US.

The logistics generalist must obtain forklift training and forklift certification provided by the contractor's employer. Must be able to use computers at a basic level. Candidates require access to sponsor's IT system and will be trained by sponsor to operate within it. Candidates should be familiar with Microsoft Office applications, such as Outlook, Word and Excel. Candidate must have basic skills required to successfully operate its handheld cargo tracking scanners and to operate within the sponsor's main system. Candidate must take sponsor's system training as required.

The Developmental Logistics Generalist manually checks inventory of boxes to verify accuracy; executes correct wrapping and documentation according to method of shipment. Candidate ensures that all received shipments are carefully inspected for apparent damage prior to signing vendor or other chain of custody documents presented by commercial or other customers and personnel. Candidates consult sponsor standard operating procedures for disposition of items discovered to be damaged upon receipt at warehouse or through notification by sponsor office personnel. Candidates verify material contents against packing lists and manifests to account for units of measure for pieces, boxes, skids and other packaging as required. LG consult sponsor =standard operating procedures for disposition of items discovered to be partial receipts, or missing items upon receipt at warehouse or at warehouse receiving station. the developmental logistics generalist uses forklift, hand truck, carts and small hand tools on daily basis to maneuver, label and/or prepare material for shipment. Candidates acquire delivery method proficiency across a variety of defined transportation schedules of other government entities in order to meet the required delivery date of sponsor customers.

Candidate processes the shipment of supplies and equipment of various size, shape and weight. Materials are typically packed in cardboard boxes, plastic and metal cases, and wooden crates. Assist in the scheduling and coordination of pouch couriers in accordance with the office standard operating procedure.

Apply basic planning and project management principles to develop comprehensive shipment milestone deadlines to conform to other government agency pouch transportation schedules. Reviews, processes and files hardcopy and softcopy documents related to pouch shipments. Candidate will update and submit spreadsheets and manifests to sponsor elements and third party vendors as required. Logistics generalists create, submit and oversee a high volume of email and verbal requests through sponsor specific databases. Monitor and assist in maintaining an in-house supply of packing materials. Candidate will assist in the coordination of pouch courier personnel as required in accordance with office standard operating procedure. Candidates proactively seek to assist others in the office to process urgent tasks or follow up on backlog of requests as required. Official team lead/supervisor responsibilities are not associated with this position. However, candidate must be willing to outline office standard operating procedure to assist new team members in learning office processes.
