As an Amazon Web Services (AWS) Principal Cloud Engineer supporting the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), you will be trusted to administer, configure and maintain the full range of AWS services. You will be part of a 60 person team supporting the Trusted Third Party (TTP) which was established in 2012 to reduce fraud, waste and abuse in healthcare data. The position is based out of the West Des Moines, IA office, but qualified remote candidates will be considered.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Use AWS services to provision, monitor, and support distributed compute infrastructure
  • Implement tools and automation for infrastructure provisioning, monitoring, diagnostics, and scaling
  • Configure and manage AWS environments to meet business owner needs.
  • Provide Architectural and Engineering designs for Cloud based infrastructure on Public IaaS
  • Deploy, test and document Development, Pre-Production and Production environments

  • Required Education and Experience
  • Minimum Education: B.A. or B.S. degree in related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum Years of Experience: Must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in IT services.
  • Minimum of 4 years of cloud experience
  • Minimum 10 years overall technical support or development experience
  • Computer Science fundamentals in data structures and problem solving.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (such as; Python, Ruby, JavaScript or programming languages: Java, C++/C#.)
  • AWS experience with RDS, EC2, Lambda, AWS directory Services, ACM, Workspaces and others AWS services
  • Fortinet Fortigate or comparable Next Gen Cloud FW
  • Experience with PowerShell or  Bash
  • Experience with Microsoft Server administration
  • Transit Gateway experience within AWS.
  • Be proficient in scripting Image deployment and bootstrapping, as well as Cloud Formation
  • AWS Certified Solution Architect Associate
  • U.S. Citizenship or permanent resident
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust

Desired Qualifications:

  • 4 years of experience deploying cloud architecture
  • AWS Certified Solution Architect Professional
  • Experience in Linux/Unix based systems a plus
  • Assist in preparing cost analysis based on expected usage
  • Experience in a 24/7 production environment
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient at multi-tasking and proactive in work responsibilities
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Passion for providing a great customer experience
  • Excellent communication, prioritization, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and agile development environment
  • Must be able to see opportunities for improvement, take ownership and closely work with development team to drive product improvement.
  • Capability of speaking directly with client teams to provide knowledge transfer or cloud expertise
  • Strong background in Microsoft based applications
  • Leverage resource tagging to allocate costs and optimize resource planning.
  • Experience with security and network monitoring tools such as Nagios, New Relic, Trend Micro, and Splunk
  • Experience with AWS Cloudwatch and AWS Config to monitor cloud infrastructure and compliance
  • Experience in Jira/Confluence
  • Experience using software version control systems, such as Git
  • Backup AWS resources using AWS services across multiple regions
  • Experience designing redundant, highly-available, multi-region cloud architectures
