GDIT is supporting CDC in research and development efforts and in influenza surveillance by increasing the diagnostic and immunization tools available to clinical providers, public health laboratories and domestic and international partners. We are seeking a Scientist with experience in Immunology or virology for studies focusing on influenza-associated disease, using animal models specifically ferrets.
Such experience will be used on the development of tools for the ferret model of influenza infection, to evaluate and develop novel influenza vaccine approaches in animal models. This work will also involve assessment of influenza strain pathogenicity and antigenicity. The position is in the Immunology and Pathogenesis Branch (IPB), Influenza Division (ID) of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), Office of Infectious Disease (OID).
Development of tools for the ferret model of influenza infection including reagents to assess cellular, serological, and innate immune responses
Evaluate and develop novel influenza vaccine approaches in animal models
Lab support for antiviral prophylaxis and therapeutic approaches in animal models
Assessment of influenza strain pathogenicity and antigenicity in animal models
Provide the Molecular Virology and Vaccine Team (MVVT) with serological assays
BS degree plus 5 years’ experience in immunology and virology, MS plus 1 years of experience
Preferred qualifications – Experience with influenza virus; experience with ferrets
