SENIOR COMBINATION WELDER

Must be a skilled well rounded craftsman with the ability to weld all positions to include mirror welding in the SMAW and FCAW processes.

Welds will be subjected to Visual, MT and PT inspections.

Must be able to pass standardized Navy welding plate test and practical welding test.

Devises, fabricates and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for welding and assembly.

Evaluates the form, fit, and function of components, apparatus and equipment for adherence to project objectives.

Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced technicians. Participates in special projects as required.

Must be able to read and demonstrate proficiency in interpretation and understanding of NAVSEA drawings and production documents.

Maintains welder log and is responsible for submitting all necessary paperwork for completed work.

Have the ability to efficiently use oxygen/acetylene torches and Plasma machines for cutting metal from raw plate.

Have the ability to become OSHA Certified, Fire Watch Certified and Respirator Qualified.

Ensure that all safety conditions are met prior to the commencement of hot work.

Able to measure and transfer dimensions from drawings to onsite Ship's conditions and configurations.

Possess good verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to verify prefabricated material against NAVSEA drawings for correctness. Knowledge of Naval Ships framing and spacing, as well as, Ship Compartment designations.

Able to operate metal shaping electrical and air tools.

Willing to work overtime.

Possess the attitude and ability to work in a team environment and as a team player.

MUST have own local transportation.

MUST have appropriate welding, fitting and measuring tools required for fabrication.

HS/GED Technical or vocational training preferred. One or more professional certifications may be required, depending on job assignment.15-20 years of related welding experience.  

Must be able to access all shipyards and government facilities.  

Looking to bring on the right team member with a diverse welding, fitting and mechanical background. Must be motivated, self-starting and have a tireless work ethic.  This is a senior level welder/fitter position working in the Hampton Roads Maritime Industry.  Must be a team player, a mentor and be willing to train junior level welders and fitters.  This position will be filled by the right candidate who is dependable, skilled, resourceful, works efficiently with little supervision and desires to be part of a small structural team.  Non maritime experience can be a plus for the right candidate.  We are not looking for a typical shipyard welder.  Must be willing to perform all aspects of the job from setup to paint removal.  You will have help, but are expected to move and set up all required equipment for welding.  We are looking for a welder, not a grinder. A truly skilled craftsman who is willing to work hard and help train less experienced welders/fitters.
