Our work depends on a Storage Lead joining our team to support one of our federal customers with locations in Bethesda, Rockville, and Frederick. This will be a hybrid onsite / remote position; however, the successful candidate will be local to the DC Metropolitan area to facilitate onsite presence when needed.

At GDIT, our people are at the center of everything we do. As a Storage Lead supporting GDIT’s federal customer, you will be trusted to lead a team in providing general cybersecurity activities and support.  In this role you will provide technical expertise in storage engineering, backup administration, and operations.  You will lead a team of engineers managing storage and backup solutions and Disaster Recovery, and ensure proper configuration, availability, performance, capacity, and maintenance in the existing environment.

A typical day will include leading the team in performing the following activities:

  • Provide installation services, in collaboration with hardware vendors, for storage equipment  

  • Manage storage within the SAN, NAS, and DAS areas, to ensure that appropriate storage is available for the needs of the customers (ongoing effort, everyday). This includes high-capacity data storage for individuals or groups whose size requirements exceed traditional data storage limits.

  • Perform daily storage account management to allow users and groups to access storage

  • Review daily equipment status reports and communicate anomalous data to government

  • staff.

  • Perform and validate software updates on storage infrastructure.

  • Perform and validate firmware updates.

  • Respond to and resolve problems with storage infrastructure utilizing vendor support

  • when needed.

  • Perform disaster recovery tests in accordance with COOP and disaster recovery plan and the GSS to ensure data integrity and availability.

  • Maintain and audit storage data security, and review data permissions with primary data owners.

  • Perform storage data backups.

  • Daily, review daily status reports for backup and restore, and communicate anomalous

  • data to government staff.

  • Perform and validate software and firmware updates on backup and restore infrastructure.

  • Respond to and resolve problems with backup and restore infrastructure utilizing vendor

  • support when needed.

  • Perform daily backup failure remediation and troubleshoot.

  • Audit data backup policies and configurations, on a quarterly basis, to ensure all required data is being backed up.

  • Capture monthly full data backup of Capacity Tier storage and retain for 60 days, weekly differential backups retained for two months consisting of additive copies of files that have changed, and daily incremental backups retained for two months that capture any changes to a file after the most recent backup.

  • Restore files or data based on last known good date within the previously mentioned

  • retention period.

  • Manage and perform tape rotations for backup tape libraries (ongoing, daily effort).

  • Protect Archive Tier from hardware failure and accidental deletion.

  • Conduct tape transfers from tape storage to library to support data restore operation.

  • Work with end users, developers, system administrators, network administrators and

  • Federal staff to develop and implement storage practices, and storage related SOPs.

  • Work with end-users to evaluate storage solutions.

  • Provide strategic planning support for growth and optimization of storage infrastructure,

  • backup and restore.

  • Evaluate data storage technologies and determine how they can be effectively integrated into the environment.

  • Make recommendations on future needs by analyzing the health and scalability of backup and restore infrastructure to include capacity, software, and licensing requirements, and growth and optimization of storage infrastructure.

  • Recommend data security standards by analyzing data confidentiality, availability, and

  • integrity.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Requires BS degree and 10+ years of prior relevant experience. Additional years of experience and/or certifications will be considered in lieu of degree.

  • ITIL certification preferred but will consider candidates with proven ITIL experience

  • Experience designing, operating, and maintaining backup solutions and conducting Disaster Recovery exercises

  • Proficiency in, using, maintaining, and provisioning Isilon storage system, DDN storage, Netapp, HP EVA, Oracle tape libraries, and Commvault backup software.

  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
