We are seeking an IT Project Manager to support National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Library of Medicine (NLM) projects. As an IT Project Manager you will be supporting the world’s largest biomedical library in projects encompassing the delivery of wired, wireless, and VPN solutions, security solutions, as well as other network infrastructure projects.

We expect this position to be substantially remote. However, you should live within a reasonable commuting distance to Bethesda, MD should circumstances change or you need to come to the client site for meetings or other duties.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Overseeing financial, personnel, cost and technical performance for multiple tasks/projects

  • Develop project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility

  • Document the technical, financial, and resource allocation aspects of each project

  • Maintain quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards

  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans to track progress

  • Track individual responsibilities across projects

  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation

  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects

  • Ensure resource availability and allocation

  • Measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques

  • Anticipate potential project roadblocks and identify alternatives in an independent and efficient manner

  • Report and escalate to management as needed

  • Perform risk management to minimize project risks

  • Use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs

  • Provide technology strategy planning

  • Integrate information technologies into the organization for optimal effectiveness

  • Understand current and future business goals and ongoing IT issues to ensure business success

  • Brief Senior Leadership on project initiatives, status, and future developments within the organization.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • BS/BA or equivalent in computer science, information systems, engineering, business administration or related field; and 8+ years’ experience. Or a Masters degree and 5+ years’ experience

  • 4+ years of experience managing IT projects according to PMI or standards

  • Experience managing the deployment of network infrastructure projects, such as IPS, FWs, wired and wireless, and datacenter solutions

  • Experience developing project schedules using MS Project

  • Excellent writing skills to support position papers, research analysis and communication with Senior Executives using PowerPoint and Word

  • Experience using Excel to track financials and develop ETCs

  • Must possess or be able to obtain NIH Clearance / Public Trust

Desired Skills and Experience::

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

  • Experience liaising with stakeholders in senior management regarding IT needs and requirements.

  • Ability to produce PowerPoint presentation
