GDIT is seeking a Compliance / Accessibility Specialist to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrations (NOAAs) National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI).
This position is part of an Agile Scrum development team supporting the NCEI’s effort to consolidate its web pages into a modern, unified presence. This development team also works in the context of the broader Data Access Branch (DAB) to assist with the UI/UX for web applications providing search, discovery, and access to scientific datasets and products. The position will:
Require an experienced professional capable of working with teams across various geographical locations who will be able to gather UI/UX requirements and either directly implement them in the Drupal CMS, or provide mockup documentation as usability guidelines for other development teams to implement.
Experience developing, conducting, analyzing, and presenting findings from a variety of web design and usability research initiatives.
Review deliverables, sites and apps to ensure they are meeting design and usability standards.
Create and facilitate various research methods to understand user needs and translate them into requirements that adhere to brand and usability standards.
Lead the 508 Accessibility compliance process by reviewing web pages and web applications, recommending remediation, establishing and maintaining guidelines, and by educating development staff on 508 compliance to enable them to sustain the compliance of our web content while developing new features.
Serve as Scrum Master for the web development agile team.
Experience designing, marking up, and styling page templates
Ability to produce modern, responsive designs, components, and user-flows within an existing style guide
Experience working with and producing wireframes, hi-fidelity mockups, and prototypes
Proficient in design and prototyping software (we use Figma, but Sketch/InVision and Adobe XD experience OK)
Comprehensive understanding and implementation of 508c/WCAG 2.1 compliance (A and AA standards and industry best practices) and accessibility testing tools, methods, and software (e.g. ANDI, Colour Contrast Analyzer, screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA)
Experience with Agile software development methodologies
Experience working in a small team of developers with the ability to create and maintain design systems and corresponding documentation
Experience facilitating user testing studies to inform, improve and validate user designs
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong presentation, facilitation, and analytical skills
Ability to mentor or coach other team members
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, graphic design, marketing, communications, or related field or equivalent experience
5 years of combined User Experience and UI development Experience
DHS Trusted Tester, IAAP CPWA / WAS, or other accessibility certification
Experience designing and theming using Drupal 8 Twig framework
Understanding of SEO
Software design experience for web-based applications
