General Dynamics Information Technology (IT) has partnered with NASA to consolidate select Procurement, Finance, Human Resources (HR), and Information Technology activities from the 10 NASA Centers into a single shared services center located at Stennis Space Center in southern Mississippi.
The mission of the NASA Shared Services Center (NSSC) is to provide timely, accurate, high-quality, cost-effective, and customer-focused support for select NASA business and technical services.
General Dynamics IT has an opportunity on the NSSC contract for an HR Technical Writer-Editor to contribute to our organization’s success in providing technical writing support services to NASA. This will be a part-time, casual position at Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. Remote employment opportunities are available.
Candidate must be able to write/develop and edit all types of Human Resources (HR)-related documentation, including: award nominations, résumés, and ECQs.
Candidate must be familiar with interviewing and working with high-level executives to write résumés and competency documentation in the OPM format, writing award nominations, and analyzing executive work experiences to create award nomination and Executive Core Qualifications narratives.
Candidate must have strong skills in grammar, punctuation, and writing/editing for clarity. Candidate must have strong/advanced skills in using Microsoft products (especially Word) and be proficient in maintaining version control and using Track Changes. Candidate must be able to work independently as well as with team members and must be willing/able to follow direction/processes.
Candidate must possess excellent interviewing skills to work with all levels of personnel, obtaining information needed for each product. Candidate must be able to work with multiple Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)/customers through drafts and finalization on assigned projects. Candidate must utilize appropriate writing/editing skills to effectively communicate each project’s message to the identified audience.
Candidate must possess extreme professionalism in the ability to work with high-level Federal employees. Candidate must also possess extreme organizational abilities to record and track documents through drafts and finalization as well as work multiple projects simultaneously. Also, the candidate must be able to prioritize and use time management skills to meet all deadlines.
Candidate must be familiar with using standards and regulations, with the ability to use the standards and style guides required for assigned projects. Candidate must also be creative and familiar with desktop publishing concepts to effectively communicate, including creating/assisting with development of PowerPoint presentations, brochures, posters, and website content.
Bachelor’s degree required in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field.
8 or more years of work experience required.
Excellent grammar and writing/editing skills a must.
Excellent customer service skills dealing with all levels of personnel, including top-level executives and functional SMEs.
Ability to research and incorporate related NASA information and NASA and Federal style guidelines.
Ability to work independently, meet strict deadlines, and adjust priorities as needed.
Ability to work on a team, take direction, follow processes, and learn.
Experience and knowledge of PC-based computers and software using the Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Power Point, Excel, and Outlook.
Presentation and Desktop Publishing (Adobe Creative Cloud) experience preferred.
Knowledge of the following areas helpful, but not required: HR activities (not required to be an HR SME), Federal Senior Executive Service (SES) and ECQs requirements, Federal Government contracting experience, Government Publishing Office (GPO) process, and ServiceNow.
Writing samples required upon selection for interview.
