The USAFE ABAD System Engineers are the top aerial defense subject matter experts on the USAFE ABAD program. The System Engineers are responsible for designing, integrating, and implementing highly complex ABAD hardware to support the USAFE-AFAFRICA command. Defines all aspects of a system life cycle from requirement identification and definition, through development, implementation, and verification of system performance, fielding, and maintenance support. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provides analysis of customer requirements and generation of a mission needs statement, if required
  • Develops ABAD systems integration plans/procedures for all locations
  • Performs routine qualitative and quantitative analysis, generates reports, and briefs mission system status to Government personnel daily and/or upon request.
  • Understands Configuration Management principles, supports Configuration Manager, and facilitates organization Configuration Management (CM) process by administering CM processes.
  • Creates design, installation, and interface specifications
  • Provides hardware/software comparative data analyses  of performance characteristics and suitability within existing systems environment
  • Performs trade-off studies and evaluations
  • Designs  recommended solutions
  • Prototypes and models solutions to verify performance objectives
  • Supports the installation, test, verification and checkout of hardware and/or software systems
  • Troubleshoots system problems
  • Proposes changes and upgrades to improve reliability and maintainability or enhance performance
  • Provides technical input to configuration change boards and engineering change boards
  • Provide systems configuration management, systems and network engineering, systems upgrades and maintenance
  • Provide engineering technical assistance, performing system analysis, integrating system components
  • Configure data interfaces, troubleshooting system anomalies and developing engineering and software change reports
  • Review technical documents, developing and maintaining system operating procedures and checklists
  • Support system and data flow analysis

Skills:

Thorough knowledge of network design and maintenance, fault isolation, performance monitoring, configuration management standards, principles, and techniques. Desired, but not required, is previous experience with LAN transmission, UNIX and Microsoft operating systems, signals processing, and troubleshooting. Must have domain knowledge sufficient to assess, and document the performance of modern air defense systems. For example: threat characteristics, engagement sequences and timelines; air domain situation awareness and decision support for operators; sensor coverage.

Requirements Level I:

Masters’s degree in computer science, engineering, information management or related discipline plus 3 years recent specialized experience; or Bachelors Degree in computer science, engineering,  information management or related discipline plus 5 years recent specialized experience. Must have demonstrated practical experience in the area(s) of expertise required in the Task Order, Performance Work Statement.

Level II = Level I with 3 additional years’ experience

Level III = Level I with 5 additional years’ experience
