Hiring software engineers at multiple levels of experience to work on the Navy’s leading weather (aka Meteorological and Oceanographic (METOC)), application suite: Naval Integrated Tactical Environmental System – Next Generation (NITES-Next).  NITES-Next is a web-based application with a Java backend and a React JavaScript (React JS) frontend that runs in the Electron Framework.  The application includes complex geospatial tools, maps displays, tabular displays, and various complex plots that are used by Navy and Marine Corps personnel to predict weather and prepare weather briefs and analysis for a variety of military operations.  Geospatial aspects of the application use Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standard services: Web Coverage Service (WCS), Web Map Service (WMS), Web Feature Service (WFS), and Web Processing Service (WPS). Candidates will work on an active and supportive Scrum Agile development team.  We use a continuous integration environment (CIE) and are transitioning to a DevOps (aka SecDevOps) environment with a container and micro services based architecture that will be hosted in the Navy’s Overmatch Software Armory (OSA)

  • Configuration Management: Nexus, Subversion (transitioning to GIT based BitBucket)
  • Container Architecture: RedHat OpenShift Service Mesh (a cloud-based Kubernetes container platform)

Core Skills: Java and React JS Development

Distinguishing Knowledge/Experience: Experience designing for, developing in, securing, or configuring container-based applications; especially using RedHat OpenShift Service Mesh and/or Kubernetes. Experience working in the Navy’s Overmatch Software Amory (OSA).

Desirable Skills: Knowledge/experience with any of the other technologies listed, domain experience in Meteorological and Oceanographic (METOC) / Weather.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: BA/BS or equivalent, 8+ years of experience
