Job Description

GDIT is seeking a Network Engineer Subject Matter Expert to help support our Defense Logistics Agency (DLA IOEE/IOSEE) program in Springfield, VA.

This is a hybrid position. At this time, the requirement is to come into the Springfield GDIT office on Tuesdays. As this program supports SIPR work, the Network Engineer is expected to go into the DLA facility as needed to complete their SIPR work. 

The schedule will adjust depending on the amount of SIPR work at a given time, but again Tuesdays are the current mandatory day at the GDIT office. 

With minimal direction, provides support, analysis and research into exceptionally complex problems and processes relating to the subject matter. Serves as technical expert on executive-level project teams providing technical direction, interpretation and alternatives. Thinks independently and demonstrates exceptional written and oral communications skills. Applies extensive technical expertise, and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Guides the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role. Develops technical solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Work is performed without appreciable direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Expertise is in a particular area of Information Technology (e.g., Information Systems Architecture, Telecommunications Systems Design, Architecture, Implementation, Information Systems Integration, Software Development Methodologies, Security Engineering, Communications and Network Systems Management).

Responsibilities:

  • Planning, performing, and documenting laboratory assessments of hardware and software for both the classified and unclassified DISN Services to ensure proper connectivity and operations between the DLA WAN, the DLA's NOC, and DISA's NOCs.

  • Coordinating with the government customer to create a Technology Assessment Plan (TAP) to include the objectives, scope, equipment and configurations, technical approach, procedures, schedules, and roles and responsibilities required to complete the DLA LAN technology refresh and upgrades. These assessments may include independent cost estimates.

  • Preparing After Action Reports (AAR) that document the approach taken, results, recommendations and supporting rationale.

  • Identifying new and emerging network capabilities as well as developing product evaluation and selection criteria.

  • Familiarity in a DoD Hosted Cloud Environment with expert level experience working with cloud native technologies.

  • Developing system evaluations methods and procedures.

  • Producing formal documentation of recommendations for executive briefings.

  • Ensuring interoperability between DLA WAN and DISN network equipment and services.

  • Planning and tracking of implementation tasks.

  • Extensive experience with enterprise network design and sustainment, to include routing, switching, data center, and cloud technology areas.

  • Creating necessary supporting configuration artifacts such as network maps, detailed designs, test plans, operations readiness test reports, device configurations, and maintenance processes and procedures.

  • Providing Subject Matter Expert (SME) engineering services to the government customer.

Required Qualifications:

  • Active Secret with SSBI or Top Secret security clearance

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Information Systems/Technology

  • DoD 8570 Level III Compliant certification

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional Enterprise (CCNP-E) certification

  • Must be able to obtain the following certification within 6 months from hire date: CheckPoint Certified Security Administrator (CCSA)

  • 10 years of experience in a relevant field

  • Must have hands-on experience with Azure, AWS and/or Cloud

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Top Secret security clearance

  • Azure Fundamentals certification

  • AWS Cloud practitioner certification

  • Cloud+ certification

  • Check Point Certified Security Expert (CCSE) certification

  • Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert -Enterprise Infrastructure (CCIE-EI) certification

  • CheckPoint Certified Security Administrator (CCSA) certification
