GDIT is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support business continuity readiness for their government client in their facility in northern Virginia.  Role will be responsible for various telecommunications support equipment. 

No TELECOMMUTING allowed and must be local to the area.

Responsibilities may include the following:

  • Manage the installation, testing, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and deployment of select functional capabilities owned or operated by BC/DR
  • Identify and resolve operational risks
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair actions on: Information technology equipment; Satellite communications systems; VOIP Systems; UHF/VHF radio systems; Portable generators and associated equipment; Diesel/gasoline vehicles
  • Provide system administration, maintenance, operations, and customer support to standard Windows-based workstations, VOIP phones, and VTC systems
  • Provide assistance and guidance developing options for equipment upgrades, including working with vendors to repair/replace existing equipment
  • Assist in the planning, installation and implementation of any mobile communication system modification or lifecycle replacement
  • Documents standard operating procedures, tasks, and updates system information on drawings, diagrams, and flow charts
  • Assist in logistics support activities

The ideal candidate will meet most of the following:

  • Working knowledge of Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016/2019 operating systems
  • Familiar with basic network operations, IP telephony administration, and basic Linux programming language
  • Competency with networking devices such as Cisco routers and switches
  • Understanding offsite facility design/setup based on defined deployment operations scenarios
  • Knowledge of satellite communication technologies, including: C/Ku/Ka band, high power amplifiers, antenna tracking systems, and modulation/demodulation techniques
  • Knowledge of radio frequency (RF) systems (UHF, VHF, 800 MHz)
  • Knowledge of the processes and procedures required to provide communications capabilities via commercial/DoD satellites (e.g. SES, DSCS)
  • Knowledge in administration of ESXI virtual servers
  • Knowledge of generally accepted standards in technical documentation creation and management as they relate to mobile satellite communications
  • Knowledge resolving complex communications systems problems using spectrum analyzers, frequency counters, Bit Error Rate Testers, fiber optic test equipment, and other common test equipment and network simulators
  • Strong understanding of network related protocols including DNS, DHCP, VPNs, SSL, SSH, SMTP, RTP, TCP/IP, SIP, VLAN and TLS
  • Understand general electrical standards and portable diesel generator operation/minor maintenance

Qualifications:

  • Be available to travel within the continental United States (CONUS) and its territories for extended periods of time ranging from a few days to a few weeks at a time
  • Possess a TOP SECRET security clearance and meet all eligibility requirements for access to classified information
  • Contract staff must possess excellent customer service and written and verbal communication skills
  • Be willing and able to provide assistance in other BC/DR Alternate Site areas as needed
  • Must be self-motivated and possess the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an Air Brake endorsement.

  • Work location will be in the Manassas, Virginia area with limited travel to Washington, DC and surrounding area. Additionally, as critical contract staff, there is the potential for deployment within the continental United States. Work hours will be flexible and may require adjustments based on circumstances and current events.
