Created after 9-11-2001, the Department of Homeland Security consolidated numerous agencies' data centers for central management. GDIT plays a key role in the Department's IT integration strategy through its Data Center-1 program.  GDIT's DC-1 program is committed to delivering an efficient, responsive, and mature data center operation through excellence in service delivery, performance, and continual service improvement.

GDIT is looking for a Network Engineer to architect, implement, and maintain a Cisco network supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).  This Engineer will be responsible for architecting and implementing solutions that support the existing Cisco network infrastructure as we move towards Software Defined Network (SDN) leveraging Cisco ACI.

Essential Job Functions

  • Experience or exposure to a hosting providers, online services, or internet service provider environment is preferred.
  • Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture
  • Provides specific, detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements
  • Evaluates and reports on new network technologies to enhance capabilities of the network
  • Prepare for data center upgrade to Cisco ACI
  • Document and validate connections both through config reviews (Arp table/CDP Neighbors / etc.) and physically if needed (trace patch cord connections)
  • Maintain spreadsheets and create and update detailed Visio documents
  • Plan, test, and implement upgrades, using the Cisco Application Policy Infrastructure Controller (APIC)
  • Automate and perform daily operational duties supporting the Data Center Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI)

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Information Technology or the equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
  • Eight or more years of experience in networks, LAN/WAN or management information systems
  • Experience working with network systems and networking principles, data, voice or video
  • Must have knowledge in network and switching protocols
  • Must be strong in firewalls and firewall rule contexts
  • Must have strong knowledge in Cisco Nexus Operating System (NX-OS)
  • Strong network performance modeling and benchmarking skills
  • Strong communication skills to interact with team members, management, customers and support personnel
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Cisco Nexus 9000 series (ACI knowledge is a plus)
  • Cisco ASA Firewalls (FirePOWER knowledge is a plus)
  • Cisco PoE switches
  • Cisco ASR routers
  • IOS and NX-OS
  • Knowledge of Cisco TACACS+ or ISE is a plus

Required Certifications

  • CCNP Certifications

  • Knowledge on F5 Load Balancers
