GDIT seeks a Senior Red Hat Enterprise Linux Systems Engineer for the FDIC Infrastructure team. The Senior RHEL System Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining processes for an App, Web, and Database tier and will work closely with various development teams to understand and analyze the application components and their build, deployment and dependency requirements, and develop the DevOps solutions using the enterprise standard tools and best practices. The engineer will maintain a strong focus on automation leveraging ServiceNow Orchestration, self-service, rapid feedback, continuous improvement and leveraging best practices throughout infrastructure lifecycle.  US Citizenship and background investigation is required; you must have a current clean financial background. Though the position is 8-5 M-F, the role requires flexibility to support issues or planned activities after hours, weekends and holidays as needed. Successful candidate must possess and be able to demonstrate technical skills and Engineering attitude for success, dedication and commitment.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation [FDIC] mission is to preserve and promote public confidence in the U.S. financial systems by insuring deposits in banks and thrift institutions for up to $250,000; by identifying, monitoring, and addressing risks to the deposit insurance funds; and by limiting the effect on the account and the financial system when a bank or thrift institution fails. GDIT provides the day-to-day operational services to FDIC in support of infrastructure, facilities, hardware, software, and systems. GDIT supports operational security, client support/help desk, data center operations, asset management, and systems engineering service areas. The FDIC Engineering team provides support to a plethora of cutting-edge technologies across the IT spectra. It has a state of the art development lab to test new functionality, architectures, and equipment. Engineers are tasked with developing and deploying innovative solutions to meet business requirements - not managing day to day, same technology operations.

To qualify, you must meet these basic qualifications: 

  • Assist with application integration and troubleshooting in this infrastructure for a complex application environment, including management of dependencies on services, platforms, and other applications for on premise and cloud ready services..
  • Research, design and develop automation method to support the platform provisioning, maintenance and operations of large-scale products and services.
  • Familiarity with web-based technologies, including but not limited to, reverse proxy servers, SSL certificate configuration, three-tier architecture, service oriented architecture,
  • Familiarity with web-servers, including but not limited to JBoss, WebLogic, & Apache Tomcat in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience with implementation and maintenance of Linux Containers and Docker
  • Collaborate with solution architecture to devise infrastructure solutions most suitable to meet system requirements
  • Develop best practices, operational procedures and design documentation
  • Plan and coordinate system utilization, and performs growth analysis and capacity planning
  • Experience supporting mission critical, 24x7 systems;

  • Accountable to lead and guide the completion of major programs and projects
  • Participates as a Subject Matter Expert in technical and business discussions with clients, teammates, vendors, partners and /or upper level managers
  • Ability to manage and/or lead cross-functional teams for Customer engagements
  • Proven success oriented professional attitude
  • BS or equivalent and nine years related experience, or MS and seven years related experience
  • Ten plus years of experience with Linux servers in virtualized environments
  • Ten plus years of experience with the fundamentals of Linux scripting languages (BASH, PERL, Python)
  • Ten plus years of experience installing, configuring, and maintaining services such as Bind, or Apache, or MySQL, or nginx, etc.
  • Ten plus years of experience maintaining Linux patch management platforms such as (RedHat Satellite, Foreman, Spacewalk)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

It would be great if you also had these desired active certificates:

  • Seven plus years of experience with configuration management tools, such as Puppet or Chef
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
  • ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) is a plus
