GDIT is looking for a talented Software Engineer to work developing solutions for the US Navy in the areas of Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC) Command and Control (C2), and Intelligence in Monterey, CA.

We have an immediate opening supporting Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center (FNMOC). FNMOC has the job of providing worldwide meteorology and oceanography support to U.S. and coalition forces from their 24X7 Operations Center. We seek an engineer with creative problem-solving skills.  The team utilizes a Scrum Agile and Kanban methodology with a fully automated continuous integration environment with automated nightly builds and automated test runs.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Researches, designs, develops and/or modifies enterprise-wide systems and/or applications software

  • Participates in the design and coding of software products

  • Performs systems modeling, simulation, and analysis

  • Prepares comprehensive test plans and conducts tests

  • Analyzes test results and recommends moderately complex corrections to more experienced software engineers

  • Writes and updates technical documentation such as user manuals, system documentation, and training materials

  • Troubleshoots problems and provides customer support for software operating system and application issues

  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned

  • Participates in special projects as required

Required:

  • 3 years of experience planning, writing, coding, testing, debugging and documenting programs in a Linux or Unix-like environment shell scripting; Bash, Korn, or similar

  • 2 years of experience using a compiled language; Fortran or Java

  • 2 years of experience using an interpreted language;  Python, Perl, or similar

  • 1 year experience doing application programming;  numerical simulations, database, or similar

  • Javascript and Python skills neede

  • Secret clearance

Bachelor’s Degree in a physical science:  coursework covering theoretical meteorology, including the dynamics of the atmosphere, mesoscale meteorology and the application of computer methods of numerical weather analysis and prediction.
