Senior System Administrator - responsibilities include:

  • Maintain all network devices which may include, but not limited to, switches, hubs, cables, routers, and firewalls.
  • Configuration management which includes thorough documentation of all network/hardware changes.
  • Provide recommendations to government personnel on performance tuning and hardware enhancements.
  • Must have hands-on knowledge of router and switch configurations (LAN, WAN, VLAN).
  • Monitor health and welfare of all network hardware equipment.
  • Develop Life Cycle plan for all network device in support of infrastructure.
  • Maintain connections between primary, secondary, and back-up sites.
  • Support Sysadmin with back-up troubleshooting in regards to network.
  • Assist government staff with requirements development and prepare evaluation/testing criteria for proposed new equipment as needed.
  • Support the stable operation of SOC computing infrastructure in a team environment.
  • Provide technical review/support to internal project managers/technical leads.
  • Provide systems/network installation/administration support to project managers/tech leads
  • Installing, configuring, patching, upgrading and maintaining Windows 2008/2012, servers, and Windows workstation.
  • Installation and configuration of Linux OS.
  • Linux platform maintenance, patch review, systems checking, new system acquisition and deployment, and implementation of hardened Linux platforms.
  • Troubleshooting Linux operating system and system hardware.
  • Administration of Linux operating system to include (but not limited to): Managing disk usage - Generating required reports for management - Auditing use of server resources - Monitoring security settings on network resources.
  • Maintain DNS server with Active Directory integrated.
  • Create, modify, and change MS domain user/computer accounts.
  • Maintain and configure printers.
  • Create/maintain Ghost images.
  • Ensure all systems are running antivirus clients with most recent AV signatures.
  • Perform configuration/life cycle management.
  • Repair/replace hardware and software as required.
  • Track software licensing.
  • Perform/monitor daily backup of critical data.
  • Configure/administer network devices.
  • Update IOS on Cisco network devices.
  • Correct/mitigate vulnerabilities as required.
  • Create/update documentation.
  • Review and provide input to Government policy, procedures and publications.
  • Coordinate updates to Intranet web sites.
  • Provide user training.
  • Request/review quotes from vendors and coordinate purchase with authorized government personnel.
  • Perform/monitor daily backup of systems/critical data.
  • Document system configurations and update existing system documentation.
  • Evaluate new software being considered for use in Linux environment.
  • Scripting experience is preferred.
  • Experience with DELL/SAN storage.
  • Any other duties as requested by the Contracting Officer Representative and SOC management.
  • Networking - securing networks, performing analyses and applying solutions.
  • Protocols – TCP/IP, FTP, and Secure Shell,
  • Information Systems Security principles, concepts, procedures and solutions, and
  • Firewall configuration and support.
  • Cisco Routers and switches, F5 accelerators.
  • Voice Switch.
  • Dell servers/workstations.
  • Cisco switching/routing/security.
  • Server configuration, setups, and installations.
  • Maintain the Patch Management, SUS.
  • Management of critical application servers, data stores, and version control.
  • Assist with lifecycle management and mitigation techniques.
  • Operating Systems – Windows 7, 2008, 2013, and Linux Redha.t
  • Applications – Microsoft Office Suite.
  • VMWare support.
  • Any other duties as requested by the Contracting Officer Representative and SOC management.

Qualities/Additional info: Senior System Administrator-Infrastructure Team Lead should be a proven team player with excellent oral and written communications skills. System Administrator Infrastructure Team Lead should also be a self-starter, capable of working projects, independently if necessary.

Job Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information systems.


  • Minimum six (6) years of relevant professional experience.


  • In addition to required education or equivalent experience;
  • Minimum five (5) years IT experience with at least three (3) years experience administering Red Hat Linux and Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2013.
  • Must have five (5) years experience as a Network Administrator in LAN/WAN environment, knowledge with Cisco Switching/Routing/Security administration and maintenance. Server Configuration, Setups and Installations.
  • Excellent analytical and communicative skills along with collaborative, teaming and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with Windows 2008/2012 Active Directory, Symantec Ghost, MS Exchange and MS Outlook, and Citrix administration.
  • Firewall administration experience (Checkpoint NG, etc.).
  • Experience with Dell servers/workstations and CISCO routers/switches.
  • Experience with LAN/WAN architecture. Experience with ArcSight ESM. Experience with Java scripting.
  • Firewall administration experience (Checkpoint, Juniper, Cisco, etc.).
  • Experience working in a network security environment, such as a Security Operations Center (SOC), Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT), Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT), Computer Incident Response Center (CIRC) or Cyber Security Incident Response Center (CSIRC).

MCSE, CCNA and/or CCSA Certification.

  • RHCE, Certification and/or MCSE, CCNA, CCSA.
