The Data and System Architect is responsible for delivery of customer-focused software and IT projects in a fast-paced, dynamic, environment. This position will support a small team that works directly with the customer’s front office staff to help set the technical direction for the center.
Many of the center’s groups have independently developed their networks and supporting systems, which has led to a complicated web of systems. This individual will assist the customer by advising on a new, unified architecture for the center’s teams and supporting the development of a 4-5 year plan for a new data environment. Additionally, the individual will collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, analysts, project managers and other engineering groups provide support in the areas of data extraction, transformation and load (ETL), data mapping, analytics, operations, databases, and maintenance of data and associated systems.
Work across customer stakeholders to understand the current and in-development systems and their architectures, users, and workflows and provide recommendations for continuous improvement
Identify and make recommendations for systems and capabilities for possible convergence
Develop a roadmap of convergence paths of current systems/workflows and intermediate and stop-gap systems that align to the overarching, long-term vision and architecture
Incorporate capabilities for knowledge management and knowledge sharing between analysts and operators so that discoveries made by one analyst or team can enhance and enable the mission of other teams, analysts, and operators
Work with stakeholders to devise creative solutions for information/data sharing (via data schema, push/pull, one-way transfer, etc.) for systems and ecosystems that cannot inherently be converged (i.e., security domain, non-customer system owner, etc.)
Monitor and evaluate technology trends in industry, national labs, and other R&D environments and make adoption recommendations to ensure the customer’s long-term technical direction is flexible enough to use emerging technology and does not become anchored to outmoded solutions
Conduct investigations and tests of considerable complexity
Communicate clearly and effectively with teammates, customers, and external partners
Prepare written and verbal communications on analyses, findings, and project progress
Write and update technical documentation such as user manuals, system documentation, training materials, processes and procedures
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, and work/military experience
Active TS/SCI with Polygraph
8 years of related experience
Demonstrated experience in ETL, data integration, and migration
Demonstrated experience with large data stores such as data lakes, data warehouses, and databases
Demonstrated experience in working with Big Data technology and using methods to ingest, process, clean, and analyze big data
Demonstrated experience with managing complex data flows, and making enhancements to existing pipelines
Demonstrated experience advising hardware engineers on machine characteristics that affect software systems, such as storage capacity, processing speed, and input/output requirements
Demonstrated experience providing maintenance, support, and enhancements to existing systems and platforms
Demonstrated experience in Kibana and Elasticsearch
Demonstrated hands-on experience with cloud-based services such as AWS.
Demonstrated hands-on experience migrating on-prem solutions to cloud environments.
Experience with different file formats like ORC, Parquet, AVRO, JSON
Experience in system management expertise with monitoring, disaster recovery, backup, automated testing, automated schema migration, and continuous deployment
Exposure in Infrastructure as Code languages like Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Cloudformation
Experience in Agile software methodologies
Experience with VMWare ESXi infrastructure 6.x + vCenter server, host clustering with HA, DRS, replication
Experience with Cisco Nexus switches and Cisco Firepower Security Appliances a plus
Experience with network routing concepts (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, IP MPLS)
