GDIT currently has a Depot Maintenance Forward (DMF) SATCOM Engineer position in Germany. This position requires someone with a current and active Secret clearance.
The Depot Maintenance Forward (DMF) SATCOM Engineer performs all aspects of the electronics system reset on Satellite Transportable Terminal (STT) and Joint Network Node (JNN) equipment. STT and JNN systems are sent to the DMF facility and the SATCOM Engineer tests, repairs, upgrades and overhauls the entire electronics portion of the SATCOM systems.
Perform all aspects of STT and JNN systems troubleshooting and repair to include communications-electronics, computer systems, sensor systems, SATCOM systems, optics, LAN and data communications, configuration and maintenance of servers, routers, switches, multiplexers, workstations and peripherals.
Perform inspections of system components, preventive maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of modules and circuit cards to the lowest replaceable unit (LRU).
Perform moderately complex technical functions such as set up, operation, maintenance, modification, circuit testing, calibration and troubleshooting of electronic or electro-mechanical systems, or specialized test equipment to support products or product performance to validate, investigate and resolve matters of significance.
Perform reset operations on STT and JNN systems to include all network equipment.
Perform final system test to include satellite acquisition and data communication validation.
Read and interpret schematic and engineering drawings and diagrams. Perform operational test and return to service checks.
Develop integration plans, perform hardware integration and manage documentation schematics and modifications.
Configure computer software, communications devices, and peripheral equipment to operate within designated networks.
Provide technical representation at meetings and consultations with clients or their representatives.
Work with minimal supervision.
Multi-task efficiently and work in a fast pace environment on multiple projects.
Document maintenance tasks via local or web-based reporting system, provides system functional briefings to customer and supervisor.
Majority of time spent working in a shop environment.
Performs all other duties assigned.
An active U.S. Government SECRET clearance.
Ability to obtain TESA approval.
BA/BS plus 5 years’ experience, AA/AS plus 7 years’ experience, or a High School diploma and 9 years’ experience.
US passport must not expire for at least 2 years and must have at least 4 blank pages.
Strong background in electronics, and communications to include tactical Satellite Systems.
Mechanically inclined and familiar with the proper and professional use of drills, saws, grinders and other equipment used in metal fabrication and repair.
Possess high reliability soldering skills and is experienced in repair of PCB (Printed Circuit Boards), and in the use of Test Equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, millimeter's, power meters and DC power supplies.
Possess excellent soldering and cable termination skills.
Ability to meet internal paperwork requirements.
At least seven years of relevant experience in a technical capacity whether active duty military, government service, and/or contractor. Graduate of military service technical school such as USAF 2EXXX / 3DXXX / ETC or US Army 35T / 35S / ETC or similar.
Experience with various COMSEC equipment and configurations, communication system, data-networks to include Fiber-Optics/Networks, and VOIP.
Ability to troubleshoot and isolate hardware or software configuration malfunctions in multi-vendor integrated networked systems.
Experience in interpreting system drawings, electronic schematics, network drawings, engineering drawings.
Two years performing system functional analysis and failure data reporting, evaluate system performance, install approved system modifications, and recommend system architecture and technical change proposals.
Capable of performing analysis of system operations and performing training.
Experience troubleshooting, fault finding, and repair of electronic equipment.
Experience with communications analyzers (service monitors) spectrum analyzers, and volt meters.
Experience in customer support.
Experience in stock control and asset management.
Excellent customer presence as well as verbal and written communication skills, writing system documentation documents, and communications involving system installation and operation.
