At GDIT, people are our differentiator. As a Data Center Hardware and Process Engineer supporting various health programs, you will be trusted to work on critical infrastructure including structured cabling, assisting in racking and stacking of devices and decommissioning. You will also be trained on and maintaining a DCIM toolset working with NLYTE. This role is an essential position and will be in Rensselaer, NY. This role will be typically during the day, but for critical activities there will be some occasional night or weekend work that is preplanned in advance.

In this role, a typical day will include the responsibilities below:

  • Providing monitoring, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting support of information systems and their associated telecommunication methods.IE Fiber and copper cabling
  • Performing all required elements related to accurately tracking cables within the Data Center
  • Assisting the various Lines of Service with racking and stacking of devices
  • Documenting cabling concerns within the environment and putting together plans with other Lines of Service and customers to remediate
  • Keeping the Data Center Manager informed of any unusual conditions or problems encountered in the performance of daily duties
  • Interacting with all levels of management when working through and planning remediation efforts for cabling within the Data Center
  • Using a variety of interactive tools and processes to determine the health of physical cabling within the Data Center
  • Performing various tasks related to equipment installs and decommissions including working with Corporate asset Management on the removal of said equipment
  • Generating trouble tickets for tier 2 and 3 support to other Lines of Service as the work at hand sometimes crosses the responsibilities of multiple lines of service
  • Maintaining and updating record and tracking databases

Required qualifications:

  • BA/BS or equivalent years of experience
  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience and/or familiarity with running, decommissioning and documenting network Ethernet and fiber cabling
  • Experience working in a corporate environment
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skill
  • Previous experience in a data center environment of racking and stacking of devices.
  • Highly efficient in Visio and other MS products

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5+ years of related Large Scale Data Center experience
  • Certification for network cabling
  • Related Enterprise IT experience administering a DCIM software suite
  • 5+ years of experience installing network cabling within a large-scale data center
  • Familiarity with mainframe systems
