General Dynamics Information Technology is looking for Network Engineer in Norfolk, Virginia.

The candidate should be able to have experience configuring and managing enterprise firewalls and gateway devices, working with the following tools: Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, LAN/WAN concepts, Application firewalls, SIEM, IDS/IPS, Linux/Unix and Windows.

Key responsibilities:

  • Be proficient in the configuration and troubleshooting of IPS and IDS devices.
  • Be proficient in the configuration and troubleshooting of VPNs and IPSEC, and Cisco ASA devices.
  • Experience with command line interfaces (CLI). 
  • Experience with Cisco ASDM or other firewall management interfaces. 
  • Maintaining firewalls, virtual private networks, web protocols, and email security.
  • Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS,)
  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including Software/Firmware, patches, hot fixes and security configurations.
  • Provide Level-2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues
  • Work to enhance configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure
  • Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the company’s security team
  • Monitor and maintain network capacity and performance.
  • Maintain complete technical documentation including developing, maintaining network diagrams with Visio, creating SOP’s or updating existing SOP’s.
  • Responsible for design and engineering of IP and IP security of national data centers.
  • Work with cross functional teams to communicate the engineering design plan in support of the development and deployment of network plans, upgrades and enhancements.
  • Provide capacity management of currently deployed IP Security devices and links.
  • Work with new architectures and product introduction to make them standard implemented solution in the network.
  • Assist other Network Engineering teams in the analysis and diagnosis of problems.
  • Current on IP and security products, standards and practices.


  • 5-8 years of directly related experience in network analysis and administration. Candidates should have: knowledge of Cisco series switches; Knowledge and experience with DOD IA compliance policies and procedures; Demonstrated proficiency in BGP; EIGRP; STP; VTP; ACLs; and Layer 2 and Layer 3 network switching/routing; Knowledge in NetScreen; sRX and Cisco ASA; and Juniper firewall configuration.
  • Comp TIA Security + or higher level certification required.  Candidate must have secret level clearance with active SSBI. 


  • Six (6) years of experience in Engineering, Systems Analysis, DoD and DoN IT Systems, Information Assurance, Web Development, or Engineering Management to include: Systems Analysis, Systems Architecture, Systems/Equipment Support, Test and Evaluation, and Logistics support of C4ISR requirements. Three (3) years of technical experience in support of information assurance/network protection or virtualization projects. Note: Experience may be concurrent.
  • Advanced degrees substitute for experience as follows: Ph.D. – five (5) years of experience; MS – three (3) years of experience.


Education: Technical Training in relevant technical field.

Experience: Ten (8) years of hands-on experience with Data Center administration, Business IT Systems development, Gateway 2.0 (G2) / SharePoint, or Command, Control, Communications & Protection (C3P) Ashore systems , to include three of the following areas: Systems Requirements, Operational
