Senior Network Engineer

Our work depends on a Senior Network Engineer joining our team to supporting the Office of Inspector General (OIG) for the United States Postal Service (USPS). The location is remote.

You will be responsible for managing the design, planning, implementation, and administration of databases, including security, access, and documentation.

• Responsibilities include documenting, installing, configuring, troubleshooting and maintaining infrastructure communications hardware and software for USPSOIG network
• Configuring router and switches for USPSOIG internal data center and satellite sites
• Monitor, report, troubleshoot and remediate network performance issues
• Identify diagnoses and resolve network problems
• Take technical lead of projects for existing USPSOIG network, as well as redesigning network architecture in order to facilitate new business requirements and/or to take advantage of system enhancements
• Ensure LAN/WAN environment is secure and appropriate resolution to recovery and redundancy issues
• Planning and ensuring of a reliable high-performance environment across all components in the USPSOIG network
• Leading, designing, and implementing strategic and technical approach of projects
• Work closely with field operation group and other IT staff
• Lead evaluation, testing, reporting and implementation of current and immerging technologies as appropriate to the mission and priorities of the USPSOIG organization; These may include:
  • Integration with Cloud Service Providers (e.g., Azure, AWS, vCloud, etc.)
  • Integration with remote data centers
• Duties will include:
  • Palo Alto - Firewall Configuration
  • Route changes and updates
  • Troubleshooting / Diagnostics
  • Configuration and Optimization of VPN
  • Wireless Controller and WAP Configuration
  • Develop optimized routing for offloading to cloud
  • Configure cellular routers for remote sites
  • Cisco ISE/Prime configuration

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:  

• BA/BS degree (or equivalent experience) from an accredited college or university in a technical field such as Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related fields
• 8+ years of specialized experience in routing and switching
• 6+ years of experience serving in the role of senior network administration, dealing with all aspects of installing, configuring and maintaining of enterprise network

Primary Requirements:

• Ability to lead, plan, organize, implement, and direct activities and resources associated with the design, development, installation, and maintenance of enterprise network
• Demonstrated experience leading a team and being responsible for the success of complex projects with significant IT components
• Demonstrated ability to determine requirements for, and ensure design, development, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise network
• Cloud Experience (Azure, AWS, etc.)

Secondary Requirements:

• Ability to work independently, manages small project implementation across the USPSOIG agency or organization, and coordinates project activities with IT staff
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with other IT staff and managers
• Ability to perform duties as assigned and help USPSOIG in obtaining and maintaining its mission

Desired Requirements

• Advanced degree or advanced studies in converged telecommunications
• CCNP or CCNA Certification
• Strong “can-do” attitude, willing to do whatever it takes to successfully accomplish projects
• Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting complex network
• Prior experience contracting with a government agency
• Excellent Time Management skills
• Proven ability to document network topology, and reflect on changes

The security clearance for this program requires the selected candidate to have resided in the US for the past five years. The selected candidate cannot have left the country for longer than 90 consecutive days and no more than 180 cumulative days. We can only accept Green Card Holders or US Citizens for this program.

The likely salary range for this position is $89,648 - $149,698, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
