The U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) at Fort Detrick, Maryland conducts basic and applied research to develop products, information, procedures, strategies, and training programs, and provides for medical defense against biological threats

and naturally occurring infectious diseases of military significance that require biocontainment.

The Information Management Division purpose is to enable the research vision of USAMRIID with first class computer and communication services. This is accomplished by providing IM/IT management, strategic planning, IM/IT infrastructure, software application development and sustainment, communication, network, information assurance compliance and Help Desk services.

Our team is seeking a GLP trained Cyber Technician to support the implementation of Cyber awareness within USAMRIID’s research program to provide researchers an optimal secure IT environment in which to conduct their research.

Responsibilities:

  •  Must enter Biosafety Level-2, -3, and -4 research suite areas to perform work as required.

  • Use Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS) to track all maintenance or services performed. Work requests shall be updated daily with all services performed.

  • Perform work based upon the priority of the work assigned IAW medical maintenance internal SOP.

  • Perform Information Assurance duties to include enforcement of Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM) dissemination, reporting, compliance, and verification procedures as described in regulations, policies and Best Business Practices (BPPs).

  • Report security violations and incidents to the servicing RCERT in accordance with Incident and Intrusion Response policy.

  • Ensure the use of Army/MEDCOM approved procedures for

  • clearing, purging, reusing, and releasing system memory, media, output, and devices.

  • Identify data ownership (including accountability, access, and special handling requirements) for each information system (IS) or network within their authority.

  • Verify that all ISs within the scope of responsibility are properly certified and accredited in accordance with RMF and CM policies and practices before operating or authorizing the use of hardware and software on an IS or network.

  • Implement and maintain all required IA guidance, policies, procedures and regulations as directed and as resources permit.

  • Maintain audit and data logs.

  • Assist, support and report to USAMRMC and DOIM IAMs as required.

  • Provide technical Tier III support on IA issues to Help Desk and Technicians.

  • Provide specific cyber training to other USAMRIID personnel as required.

  • Enforce cyber policy, guidance, and training requirements per regulation and identified BBPs.

  • Ensure log files and audits are maintained and reviewed for all systems and that authentication (for example, password) policies are audited for compliance.

  • Prepare, distribute, and maintain plans, instructions, and SOPs concerning system security.

  • Review and evaluate the effects on security of system changes, including interfaces with other ISs and document all changes.

  • Ensure that all ISs within their area of responsibility are certified, accredited and reaccredited.

  • Maintain current software licenses and ensure security related documentation is current and accessible to properly authorized individuals.

  • Report security violations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree along with 5-8 years of relevant experience

  • Must have A+ certification and Network + and / or Security + certifications at time of hire in order to meet the baseline and computing environment certification.

  • Enrollment in the Biological Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP) for handling select agents is required and must be maintained.

  • Must have a favorably adjudicated Single Scoped Background Investigation (SSBI) completed.

  • An FBI Security Risk Assessment (SRA) must also be completed and approved.
