Sr. AWS DevOps Engineer - REMOTE!

GDIT is looking for a Sr. AWS DevOps Engineer to join our team to support the mission of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

As a AWS DevOps Engineer you will work closely with other innovative and savvy people to build, manage, and support infrastructure solutions in AWS.  You’ll help streamline our operations and processes, and further the adoption of DevOps best practices.  You will require a deep knowledge and experience of AWS services and Automation technologies (Terraform, CI/CD, and Git).

This role is fully remote; however, commuting distance to Rockville, MD is strongly preferred.

In this role, a typical day will include the following:

• Heavily utilize Terraform to automate the infrastructure lifecycle, perform routine operational tasks, and create and support custom internal tools and CLIs.
• Using your strong knowledge of AWS, Terraform, container orchestration platforms to build the infrastructure and tooling which underlies our custom AWS platform offerings.
• Assist Application teams in setting up the environment, build and deploy applications, ensure proper architecture and security standards using CI/CD and Terraform.
• Working collaboratively and independently  to develop prototypes and enhance or expand capabilities such as CI/CD, Terraform modules, and containerized or serverless services. 
• Collaborating with development and service teams to resolve and implement cloud solutions.
• Participate in daily SCRUM meetings.
• Independently manage tasks, updated documentation, and have good customer service attitude.

​WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

• BA/BS or equivalent and 7+ years related experience REQUIRED
• ​Strong infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform to include writing templates and modules from scratch
• Experience with AWS Network Services, VPCs and Direct Connect
• Experience applying and policies for AWS accounts to establish governance using AWS Organizations and Config, including writing custom Config Rules​
• Knowledge of Docker and hands-on experience in containerizing software applications; experience working with container orchestration and deployment platforms such as Kubernetes, AWS EKS or AWS ECS
• Strong understanding and support of CI/CD tools, GitHub Actions, AWS CodeBuild, GoCD or similar tools
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance level

Preferred Qualifications:

• Minimum of five years of experience with AWS to include strong knowledge of AWS services, such as Lambda, AWS CONFIG, IAM, VPC, S3, EC2, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Guard Duty, Route 53, RDS, and SSM
• Strong customer service support
• Experience using and managing Linux distributions including RedHat, CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu, or CoreOS/Flatcar
• Experience with web application architectures
• Experience with Database technologies and AWS RDS
• AWS Direct Connect, AWS TGW, and strong network routing and troubleshooting
• Solid understanding of AWS Cloud Security Services and Cloud Security Posture tools
• Strong experience troubleshooting complex CI/CD configurations and issues

The likely salary range for this position is $88,000 - $132,000, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
