GDIT is looking for a junior-mid level Technical Writer/Graphic Designer with experience with technical writing AND graphic design experience to support our client, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER).
As a Technical Writing/Graphic Designer, you will assist with researching, analyzing, and creating technical documentation such as program deliverables, project/program level status reporting, technical and functional graphics, process/procedure documentation, training materials, and technical communications. Experience working within the IT industry is required in order to be considered.

About this contract:
In 2018, FDA CDER began a multi-year effort to modernize its informatics systems, particularly in the areas of workflow management, knowledge management, data management, automation, submission intake, and cloud architecture. To ensure long-term viability of the center’s enterprise systems, a new approach is needed going forward. The key focus of CDER’s desired approach is a design that supports sustainability and scalability by emphasizing end-to-end platforms built using common software components, based on a unified enterprise data model and harmonized user interface.
GDIT's modernization contract will be supporting FDA and CDER to accomplish their harmonization goals and help take the agency forward to efficiently oversee the review, approval, and monitoring of human drug products to ensure they are safe and effective.
In this role, a typical day will include:
Writing, editing, and proofreading materials for reports, briefs, proposals, instructional material, and software and hardware documentation provided by technical personnel.
Assisting with compiling and maintaining technical data for reports related to various project and program initiatives, weekly operations and maintenance reporting, preparing high quality technical meeting materials, system design documents, and other technical documentation.
Obtaining data from review of documentation, interviews with client and project personnel (SMEs), drawings, schematics, reports, and the study of published material.
Researching and gathering technical and background information for inclusion in project documentation and deliverables.
Developing outlines and drafts for review and approval by technical specialists and stakeholders ensuring that final documents meet applicable contract requirements and regulations.
Translating technical information into clear, readable documentation and graphics (PowerPoint) to be used by both technical and non-technical program staff. Documentation includes technical documents, business proposals, memos, reports, user manuals, knowledge base articles, status reporting, briefings and presentations, functional descriptions, system specifications, guidelines, special reports, and other project deliverables to meet contract requirements.
Organizing and maintaining documents in a documentation repository.
Proofreading and providing feedback on materials prepared by peers.
Developing and maintaining knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree and 2+ years of relevant experience
A minimum of 2+ years editing experience
2+ years of experience in Microsoft Office Suite and expert-level in PowerPoint
1+ years of experience preparing documentation and developing graphics for delivery or publication
1+ years supporting Information Technology projects required
Proficiency in creating representative graphics for systems architecture diagrams
Experience writing system design documents including functional descriptions and system specifications
Excellent writing and editing skills
US Citizenship and ability to obtain a public trust background investigation
Familiarity with remediation of technical documentation to comply with accessibility standards such as Section 508 compliance
Experience with SharePoint and version control procedures
Experience with agile approaches such as scrum and SAFe

The likely salary range for this position is $56,000 - $84,000, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
