At GDIT, people are our differentiator. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team to support the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) activities in Baltimore Maryland. As a Senior Software Engineer supporting GDIT’s full stack solutions for storage and processing of high-volume healthcare data, you will be empowered to evaluate and apply new and existing technology to support ongoing operations, automation, performance improvement, and troubleshooting initiatives. You will be part of a mid-size team supporting CMS and multiple external contractor teams working in a shared environment.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Participating in collaborative team workgroups and planning meetings.
  • Working independently to research, build, test, and deploy software solutions.
  • Meet with customer counterparts to understand challenges and opportunities, provide recommendations, and report status.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop and analyze complicated and difficult software programs for computer based systems.
  • Develop complex documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code of variable complexity.
  • Under limited supervision, prepare and install solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
  • Perform in-depth prototypes, models, simulations and other technical analysis.
  • Using independent judgement, develop software solutions by studying information needs; conferring with users; studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes; investigating problem areas; following the software development lifecycle.
  • Provides detailed inputs for documentation of new or existing programs.
  • Apply practical knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience.
  • May provide guidance and work leadership to less-experienced staff.


  • Education – BS in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • Years of relevant experience – 5+ years’ directly relevant experience.
  • Technical skills – Full stack software development experience.
  • Security clearance level – N/A (public trust eligible).


  • 5+ years’ experience with full software development lifecycle experience
  • 2+ years’ experience supporting CMS.
  • Experience working with cloud tools and services.
  • Experience with Java, SQL, and Python (or related languages).
  • Familiarity with Agile and DevOps practices.
  • Familiarity with FISMA security controls.
