The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) is an organization of approximately 2,200 personnel of which 700 serve at HQ and the remaining staff serve at offices worldwide. NCIS is the DON component with primary responsibility for criminal investigation, law enforcement (LE), counter-terrorism (CT), counterintelligence (CI), and cyber matters. NCIS not only has primary responsibility for all criminal investigative, CI, CT, and cyber matters within the DON, but it also has exclusive investigative jurisdiction in non-combat matters involving actual, potential, or suspected criminal, terrorism, sabotage, espionage, and subversive activities.
NCIS provides the DON with threat status and warnings associated with terrorist, criminal, cyber, and counterintelligence activity throughout the world. NCIS is the only DON organization that has the information and responsibility to fuse and analyze the national intelligence and law enforcement information necessary to provide these warnings.
The Information Technology Directorate (ITD) supports the NCIS core mission areas to investigate and defeat criminal, terrorist, and foreign intelligence threats by planning for and providing services through appropriate use of the people, equipment, technology, and infrastructure resources of the United States Navy and Marine Corps.
A software tester reviews, develops and executes manual and automated testing to ensure product quality assurance. Performs all aspects of software testing using various testing methods to validate the quality of the requirements and development of various applications. Must be comfortable working across multiple application platforms. Possess a solid knowledge and experience with MS SQL and Oracle SQL. Design and apply test cases. Display debugging techniques and resolution to defects. Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development process.
This position is part of the IT Technology Development division within the NCIS ITDS organization and performs the following functions:
Develops and executes test cases and test plans
Identifies, tracks, and seeks resolution to application defects
Tests and retests defects and bug fixes
Performs front-end and back-end testing
Validates databases are setup with the correct data
Generate documentations for testing, results, logging and tracking all test related activities.
Able to work in semi-weekly and monthly sprint cycles
Participates in daily, weekly sprint planning
Follows and enhances developed testing processes, procedures, or methodologies
Minimizes risks by identifying, communicating, and escalating issues appropriately to developers or management
Works with the Business Systems Analyst, Requirements Analyst, Developers, SMEs, to understand business requirements and test requirements to resolve issues.
Functional repetitive testing of browser-based applications in various web browsers
Knowledge of software quality assurance
Knowledge and experience of Software QA methodologies, tools, and process
Ability to develop, perform maintain manual and testing frameworks
High Level of verbal, written and collaboration skills
Skilled in MS Office applications
BS degree; additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
5+ years of QA testing experience with a mix of automated and manual testing
Experience in the following is required:
Creating Manual Test Cases
Conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
Documenting tests results
Understanding of User Stories and components
Agile development process
Identifying and communicating Defects
Interim Top Secret clearance is required to start; must be able to be adjudicated to TS/SCI
Preferred: Current DoD 8570 - IAT Level II (GSEC, Security+ CE, SSCP, or CCNA-Security)
