GDIT is seeking a Liquid Handling Automation Specialist to provide laboratory support for enhancing laboratory capacity for comprehensive characterizations of human immune responses to influenza viruses. We are seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual to be responsible for the implementation of an automated workflow using the TECAN liquid handler specifically for Influenza immunological assays. This position is located in immunology and pathogenesis branch (IPB), Influenza Division, CDC. The purpose of this position is to provide professional support in the mission of the IPB/influenza division with responsibilities for comprehensive analyses of immunological responses to influenza vaccination and infection in humans and research activities leading to improved control of influenza.
Implement and maintain the automation workflow for high throughput influenza immune assays, to contribute to the objectives to conduct comprehensive assessment of human immunity to influenza.
Configure and program automated liquid handling instrument to improve the throughput of influenza immunological assays, including hemagglutination inhibition assays and microneutralization assays.
Assist and perform validation experiment with subject matter experts
Integrate data outputs into a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
Perform required maintenance to support the automation system
Maintain consumable inventory
Assist in troubleshooting of the automation system
Tracking and managing changes in liquid handling methods
Assist in SOP documentation
Ability to work effectively with other members of a multifunctional dynamic team, ability to handle multiple projects at one time in a fast-paced environment.
Required Skills and Experience:
MS and 2 plus years in Engineering, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related field
Minimum of 2 years of automation experience required
Experience operating and developing methods for automated liquid handling systems required. Preferred systems include Tecan, Agilent, Perkin Elmer and or Beckman Coulter.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise with liquid handling equipment and other general laboratory equipment
Good laboratory and organizational skills, the ability to work independently and efficiently is essential
Strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills
Desired Skills and Experience:
Influenza or virology, immunology laboratory experience is preferred
Experience with influenza immunological assays including Hemagglutination Inhibition (HI) and microneutralization assays.
