Description GDIT is looking for a Technical Writer to support their work for the FAA in Atlantic City, NJ. The FAA Airport Technology Research and Development Branch conducts research and development for enhancing the safety, capacity, and efficiency of airports located throughout the nation. The Airport Safety program area supports projects that focus on unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) detection and mitigation technologies/systems for airports, airport capacity enhancement, airport capacity/delay computer modeling, airport wildlife hazards, airport/heliport lighting and markings, test and evaluation of National Airspace System (NAS) visual aids, airport rescue and firefighting, and associated demonstration of various airport research products.
Candidate will acquire subject knowledge by working with multi-disciplined engineers, technicians and analysts and referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, graphical and statistical output, and trade journals. You will use your strong technical reading, writing and editing skills to interpret FAA Airport Safety and MIL-STDs and other technical requirements which will be used as the basis of the reports and documents.
Basic Qualifications EXPERIENCE/PERFORMANCE: Shall have at least a Bachelor’s degree in English or Business Management from an accredited college or university with at least 10 years communications and training experience. Must have experience in collecting, organizing, and editing information required for preparation of user’s manuals, training materials, installation guides, and reports.
Experience and proven superior performance in designing new technical manuals and reports IAW FAA customer specifications and standards. Proven performance in working in close concert with customers and engineers in developing new type manuals where there is a limited starting point. Must be the go to person and able to reason and solve problems unilaterally. Requires excellent customer relations skills.
TECHNICAL: Technical knowledge of, and experience with the subject matter. The candidate must be able to develop professional communications products and program support materials in support of FAA ATR. Final products will be delivered to FAA in electronic, web-based, or traditional / print formats, and will include quick turnaround professional briefings, presentations, diagrams/illustrations, communication slick sheets, worksheets, program branding and templates, marketing materials, web-based communications, media outputs as needed for the FAA Airport Safety Technology Research. Knowledge of latest software utilized in technical manual development. Ability to convey complex, technical information effectively and succinctly in written form. Must be able to interpret, paraphrase and rewrite engineering source data into a form suitable for the customer. Ability to search, retrieve, update and store data to a Digital Environment database repository.
INTERPERSONAL: Must be able to work in a technical environment with multiple project leads. Ability to obtain and maintain cooperative relationships with peers. Candidate must also possess good interpersonal skills (both for written and oral communications); and be capable of working independently and as part of a team.
WORK MANAGEMENT: Ability to organize effectively, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and complete tasks on time without daily supervision.
