GDIT is hiring a Datacenter Infrastructure Technician / Node Site Coordinator in Montgomery, Alabama to assist us in delivering timely and consistent information technology (IT) and telecommunications support services to our federal client.  

Job Responsibilities:

Direct hands-on performing datacenter infrastructure support activities including:

Ethernet CAT-6 and Fiber-optic patch cable management

- Run planning / documentation

- Cable making, testing, repair

- Patch cable installation, labeling, equipment connection and link verification

- Equipment recabling according to updated documentation (cut-sheets)

Rack mounted equipment handling

Serve as datacenter POC for inbound and outbound program related hardware

- Unbox, inspection and movement of equipment from loading docs to datacenter floor

Assembly of rack-mount kits / rails, etc.

- Installation of equipment in rack

- Connection of network, power and other cabling

Rack mounted equipment troubleshooting

- Serve as onsite datacenter POC for remote engineers and administrators requirement hands-on support

- Connect “Crash Carts” via serial, Ethernet and/or keyboard/video/mouse to complete initial setup or recovery tasks for a variety of equipment types.

- Verify A-side / B-side power redundancy and monitor equipment power state during power maintenance activities

Maintain physical equipment documentation / diagrams

- Rack elevation diagrams

- Cable diagrams

- Equipment floor-plan diagrams

- Equipment inventory

Strategy & Planning

  • Monitor and Report on any Datacenter related Operational and Infrastructure issues to the Senior Operations Manager

  • Develop maintenance schedules for network and systems equipment.

  • Conduct Datacenter surveys to provide information for us in scaling / expansion projects

  • Develop and implement all functional policies and procedures, including those for network architecture, standards, purchasing, and service provision.

  • Maintain detailed records of events/purchases/procedures for information sharing.

 

Operational Management

  • Practice asset management for IT hardware, software, and equipment.

  • Make purchase requests and coordinate with procurement to maintain inventory.

  • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization’s executives, decision-makers, stakeholders, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent network activities.

  • Oversee onsite Datacenter operations / engineering-related projects

  • Assist in the investigation and triage of customer issues, including help desk and technical support services.

  • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of IT systems, including networks, data centers, servers, PCs, operating systems, and associated hardware.

  • Analyze existing operations and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the network infrastructure and IT systems.

  • Manage and ensure optimal operation of all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, UPSs, and so on.

  • Provide guidance to junior members of the team.

  • Rack and Stack Datacenter equipment to include rack placement, PDUs, servers, storage, network, and other rack mounted appliances applicable to the offering.

  • Occasional travel to remote sites to assist with projects/troubleshooting.

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs+ independently.

  • Reach out to vendors to open trouble tickets and work with technicians to resolve issues.

  • Coordinate/Communicate with Government site POCs to ensure timely response of work requests and information gathering.

Required Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret security clearance required

  • 6+ years of related work experience

  • DoD 8570 IAT II Certification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Computer Science or Information Systems

  • Strong technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems

  • Strong technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards, including network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, UPSs, etc.

  • Proven experience in IT infrastructure planning and development.

  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.

Desired Qualifications:

One (or more) of the following certifications:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)

  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert: Cloud Platform and Infrastructure

  • VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization
